Okay- well, I thought since we've got threads for the best emotional episodes of MacGyver and the best episode for drooling over an injured MacGyver tongue.gif
- let's go in a little different direction.
This thread is more for probably the reason most of the men got into watching MacGyver as a kid- or at least one of them.
Which episode is the best, most action-packed episode of MacGyver?
This doesn't necessarily mean which has the most MacGyverisms- though that one is probably a pretty good bet for having plenty of action- but which one struck you as being the fastest moving episode.

Of course, my standard reply is going to be all of them because I never like choosing between episodes. But I will list a few of my favorite episodes for action which probably include- "Pilot", "The Golden Triangle" (because it's one of the first I ever remember seeing as a kid), "The Gauntlet", "Target MacGyver", "Nightmares", "Deathlock", "The Human Factor", "Dalton, Jack of Spies", "Bushmaster", "Back From the Dead", "The Widowmaker", "Murderer's Sky", "On a Wing and a Prayer", "Gold Rush", "The Invisible Killer", "The Legend of the Holy Rose" (Parts 1 and 2), "The Black Corsage", "Humanity", "Eye of Osiris", "Blind Faith", "Strictly Business", "The 'Hood", "Obsessed", "Gunz 'N' Boyz", and "The Mountain of Youth"

(And "MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis" and "MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday" for that matter.)

Anyway- there's just a few that I think have a pretty good level of action in any case. Anyone else have some favorites for action?

Okay- well upon request I've made it into a poll- but I just picked a few episodes somewhat arbitrarily here- so you probably may not agree with all of them. That's kinda why I don't always like the polls because you're forced to lock into one or the other. But anyway- if you feel there are better choices, of course feel free to elaborate on them when you post! biggrin.gif

I picked Invisible Killer, but I have to confess I had to look these eps up to see what ones they were (except the ones, like Holy Rose, that stick out in my mind because they are just so very, very, very bad-oh, Zoe...seriously? not an ep I will ever watch again. Just don't think I can do it...despite the fact that one day a short crossover fic will torture Daniel Jackson with her...).

I like anything with Jack Dalton, and my favorite action ep period is probably 'On A Wing and A Prayer'.

And 'The Widowmaker' just can't be beaten.

"Now, come on, Pete! Look at me! I'm a hurtin' guy! I'm beat up! I need a month's worth of sleep! And I need a haircut!" MacGyver, 'Serenity'

gee this is a really hard question, because theres so many episodes (especially the first 3 seasons) which are basically action adventure themed.

Having said that thought I would say that most episodes, including the ones listed are more adventure than action.

If you consider action to be running, jumping, blowing things up, fighting, car chasing etc.. then MacGyver has it, but it's paced out and mixed in with adventure and drama. I think it's actually hard to find an episode which is packed full of non-stop action.

I voted for human factor on the list, but for pure action I think the Gauntlet might take the prize, because the whole premise of that episode is MacGyver being chased by the bad guys, which lends itself to pretty much a non-stop chase, although I guess Golden Triangle has quite a lot of "action" to it as well with the traps and things

I love a good fight in the episodes. In Nightmares I was so glad he was fighting Neilson.

Also Last Stand belongs to that. Usually there's only one fight in an episode and mostly at the end. Which I don't mind but I like it halfway (like Blow Out) or in the early start of the episode, because there could always come more.

I think the episodes with the most fight scenes in it is The Spoilers with Earthquake involved in three fight sequences and one along with MacGyver.

Squeeze Play is also one of them with plenty fightscenes in at the beginning and the end.

Also Log Jam is one of my favourite fight scenes. MacGyver vs the Japanese Chainsaw Killer. nasty.gif

And of course The Challenge.

I remember during the reruns seven years ago it was actually Serenity that to me was fast paced and action packed. I just like the peaceful scenes when MacGyver goes to Serenity, the confrontation at Big Springs Ranch with Pete, Billy getting shot and MacGyver going after Murdoc.

Passages, Humanity, Cease Fire, Halloween Knights, The Ten Percent Solution, Ghost Ship, Kill Zone, Lesson in Evil and The Wall. They're all great. That's why it's so hard to name one.

That's why I didn't want to necessarily do a poll- because there's so many great action-filled MacGyver episodes. I love watching them all. smile.gif

I'd have to say Holy Rose. It starts with that awesome rescue, then it quickly changes direction to become an international treasure hunt and thriller! If I ever get to see the movies again, I might add them, too. Of course, all MacGyver episodes are exciting to me (with a few small exceptions from season 7).

OK so I wimped and picked them all. The entire series is action/adventure. Some shows have more fast paced physical action, others are more intellectual problem solving skills.

Both types of shows helped balance the series in such a way that the character was believable from many angles. MacGyver is multi-faceted, with multiple strengths and abilities. He relied on an agile mind and quick wit, but would resort to physical violence as a last resort if he had to. He preffered to think his way out of a problem first.

So many heros of the action/adventure genre are one dimensional punch first question later characters, that MacGyver is a refreshing take on the action adventure hero.

Mac's intellect and emotional vulnerability in addition to his physical strengths make him a character that is easy to identify with and rally behind. With this in mind, I think the entire series is an action packed adventure.

The stuff is already here, I just find a different way to use it. MacGyver

I'm terrible with episode names and I'm still pretty sure I haven't seen the Holy Rose. unsure.gif So I can't vote. sad.gif

But I like the way Grrl put it. Action doesn't necessarily mean blow'em up and punch'em. Just Mac trying to intellectually beat the clock is pretty suspenseful to me. biggrin.gif

I would say the 2 MacGyver movies, and Humanity, Invisible Killer, and the Murdoc episodes, maybe the 2 parters too. More time to add stuff in.

How did the Gauntlet not make the list? Oh well, the Golden Triangle was pretty eventful as well. Pretty much any episode with an opening Gambit would beat out one without it. Those just jumped into action, instead of building it up for awhile. Ah, I love the first season smile.gif

Well I've been sititng here thinking about this question. And I really can't answer it.

there's a lot of episodes in the first 2 maybe 3 seasons which where full of action.

episodes like 3 for the road, andTarget MacGyver, where both non-stop chase type episodes.
