Hey all! I'm sorry I haven't posted more often lately, but I am currently in the process of getting a new job. The bank isn't working well for me--it just isn't a good career fit for me. Yesterday, I had TWO job interviews, one at an Internet toy company and the other at a medical publication. I would be a merchandising assistant at the toy company and an editor/graphics person at the medical publication. Both of these positions fit my personality and my background much better than what I'm doing now. Plus, it would be fun to work for a toy company, even though that China recall is a little scary. So, cross your fingers and hope that I get something better (that also earns more money for me as well)! Oh, and I will have another story to post soon, once things slow down a little bit in my life.

Good luck with the job hunt MacsChick! Don't settle for anything that doesn't fit you. I've made the same mistake once, and boy, am I glad I got out off that company!
Looking forward to your story.

Hi there,
I'm back from my vacation only to read you're leaving the bank. I certainly recommend you working for a medical publication. I was the Chief of the Editorial Office of an international embryology journal, doing all the managerial stuff, copyediting manuscripts, sending them to referees and registering their answers, supervising the typesetting, layouts, and production through the final printed thing: it was great! I learned a lot, even took up Cell Biology classes at the university to have a more thorough understanding of all the processes (Developmental Biology is actually exiting stuff). My boss, who was the Editor in Chief and also Chair of the Cell Biology Dept. at the University, sent to the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and to the University of Helsinki right at the beginning to get some training and through my eight years there, I had the priviledge of attending European Developmental Biology Organization meetings for example; the journal currently has the highest impact factor of all medical journals in Spain.
Ten years ago I said goodbye to that job to enter into a totally different kind of endeavor, as exciting, thrilling, and demanding as you can imagine, but today I read in every day's news about genes, stem cells, or gene therapy that I had already read about a long time ago. Flies, zebrafish, mice, frogs... I could tell you how I adopted one of the Xenopus laevis my boss kept in his lab and how I used to polish its nails bright red!!
Best of luck, anyway

Hey MacsChick...hope the new job search goes well for you! Not to hijack, but this seems like a good place to post for me too! I feel like I've been AWOL lately! This summer's been the craziest ever and we've been going through a lot of changes. I had major 2 trips within a month's period (fun, but exhausting). We spent the summer deciding whether to homeschool kiddo or not...decided to, so I spent the last month filing my paperwork and settling on curriculum. Now to figure out a schedule so we get school done, I can keep my business going, and I can sneak in more MOL time! On top of that, my action figure commission requests are through the roof! So I gotta find time to knock the waiting list down. Who knew my second favorite obsession (MacGyver being the first, though you wouldn't know it lately!) would turn into a job!? So anyway, I so miss being here! But, don't worry, if you've actually missed me, I hope to be back more soon!

It sounds like your life is beginning to take an interesting turn as well! I was home schooled for first grade, and I really enjoyed it. My mother was an excellent teacher, and I learned enough to progress several grade levels in some subjects because of her skills. She would have continued doing it, but she couldn't afford to, so I spent the rest of my academic career in public schools. Fortunately, the schools where I live are high quality, with plenty of Advanced Placement and Honors courses, so I felt challenged enough. The only problem was the social component. If I could give you any advice about home schooling, I would tell you to make sure your child sees some friends. It was difficult for me to transition to public school from home schooling, just because it tends to be slightly isolated. I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job, though. I'm glad your action figures are going well! How fun to make money from something you love! I'm pretty close to getting that job at the toy company, so you never know...maybe there will be room for your action figures there in the future. Anyway, it was nice to hear from you, too!

Hey cool to see some people with some kind of experience with homeschooling! I'm looking forward to actually starting our "official" schedule, but we already have 10 days in...lol, and his public school wouldn't be starting until September 4! Macschick, I'm glad you had those oppertunities for challenge in school. That's part of why we decided to homeschool. Kiddo's smart, but second grade was really disappointing because he learns best actively and that just didn't happen in his class. He stopped being excited about school and barely got by. On top of that he had bully issues that the school never dealt with, spent 2 hours EVERY DAY on the bus, and there was a lot of bad influence. Already I see him being more excited about learning and every time I bring home something for schooling he can't wait to open it up, read it, whatever. I can tell I'm going to have a hard time keeping up with his reading! He bought a junior novelization of the Transformers movie (a VERY cleaned up version!) with maybe 100 pages...he read it 3 times in one day. He's also reading books I never read until I was in 5th or 6th grade! I think we'll do ok with socialization. He gets lots of interaction with other kids from church, school friends, neighbors and one we join the co-op lots of group field trips and such. He's even taking a public art class at our local arts council. We also want to get him into baseball (he's got a great arm!) and boy scouts and maybe some kind of martial arts. You know...all the stuff he never would have time for if he was in public school! lol. | QUOTE | | I'm glad your action figures are going well! How fun to make money from something you love!
