The Queen’s Best Part Three
Rated: PG

The force of the blast from Jack’s hand device sent MacGyver flying through the air and crashing back to the ground, his back slamming hard against the stone floor, knocking the air out of his lungs. Sam watched in horror and wanted to run out to stop the nightmare, but Daniel and Teal’c held her. They watched, partly in horror and partly in fascination, as the two nearly identical men met, Jack under the malevolent influence of the Goa’uld inside him.

Smirking, Jack approached the pathetic, crumpled body of MacGyver as he lay struggling to regain his breath, wincing in pain.

“You have a similar appearance to my host,” the Goa’uld’s voice growled from Jack’s mouth. He examined him in fascination. “Tell me; are you a relation of his?”

Gasping, MacGyver looked up at his cousin, finding it difficult to reconcile his behavior and appearance with the being that was actually speaking to him.

“I’m not…talking to you,” he said. “I want to talk to Jack. Let me speak to him.”

Jack smiled. “My host cannot speak to you,” he said. “He cannot do anything for you. I own his body now.”

‘Oh, that’s a load of bull,’ Jack said in his mind. ‘Mac, I’m here. I can hear you.’

‘Jack?’ MacGyver asked in his mind.

‘Oh God,’ Jack said, his voice filled with pain. ‘Mac, I’m so sorry I did this to you.’

‘You didn’t,’ MacGyver said in his mind. ‘Your Goa’uld did.’

‘That filthy snakehead son of a…’

‘Jack,’ MacGyver said in his mind. ‘How is it you can talk to me right now without your Goa’uld silencing you?’

‘You know, I don’t know,’ Jack said. ‘Sweet, isn’t it?’

“You will tell me who you are,” The Goa’uld said, moving Jack’s mouth again. He raised Jack’s frosty eyebrow. “You did not come here alone,” he said. “I know this. My guards alerted me. You are here with others. Tell me where they are. I demand to know.”

Groaning, still recovering from the blast from the hand device, his back sore, MacGyver turned as well as he could to stare defiantly back at the evil force wearing Jack’s identity as a mask. “I won’t tell you anything,” he said. “Get out of Jack’s body—now.”

The Goa’uld laughed. “You seem to believe that you are in a position to negotiate,” he said. “Unfortunately for you, this is not the case.” His eyes glowed. “You have no idea how much power I have. You will never see your friend again. You must surrender, and tell me all you know.”

“No,” MacGyver said firmly.

The Goa’uld inside Jack sighed. “Very well,” he said. “You leave me with no other alternative than to force the information out of you—painfully.”

Jack’s eyes glowed more fiercely, and he raised his hand again, the hand device increasing in power. He held it over MacGyver’s head, grinning as MacGyver suffered, waves from the hand device boring into his brain, making him feel as if it was being ripped from his skull.

‘Mac,’ Jack said in his mind, his voice filled with distress as he watched himself inflict torture on his cousin, watching helplessly as Mac writhed on the floor. ‘Mac, I’m so sorry…’

‘Get…him…to stop…’ MacGyver said in his mind, feeling himself weakening.

‘Mac, I can’t,’ Jack said. ‘I…can’t…move…I can’t move my arm. Mac, I can’t do anything!’

‘Yes…you can,’ MacGyver said in his mind. ‘You…can talk to me…Jack, your mind is stronger than the Goa’uld’s. You have to…believe that. Fight it.’

“Ahhhhh!” MacGyver screamed aloud, his voice ripping through the hallways, causing Sam to jump and want to stop the brutality again. She was restrained back Daniel and Teal’c.

“Sam, MacGyver’s trying to get through to Jack,” Daniel said. “He’s probably trying to get Jack to stop his Goa’uld from doing this. We have to let him try.”

“I can’t stand it anymore,” Sam said, tears in her eyes. “We have to do something. It’s obvious the Goa’uld inside Jack is winning.”

Daniel closed his eyes, remembering how Shar’e battled with her Goa’uld and lost many times.

“I know,” he said quietly. “I know it appears that way right now, but let’s wait just a little longer.”

“Daniel, MacGyver might be dead by the time we act! Think of how traumatized Jack would be if that happens,” Sam said.

“I agree with Carter,” Teal’c said. “If we do not interfere now, the repercussions could prove disastrous.”

‘MacGyver! No! Please…oh God,’ Jack said, sobbing.

‘Jack…’ MacGyver said faintly.

“Let’s stop this now,” Sam said, preparing to emerge from their hiding place, her weapons drawn.

“You have found one, our love,” the voice of Hathor rang through the halls, stopping Sam. She crouched back down, watching with Teal’c and Daniel as she approached Jack and MacGyver. “Tell us, has he revealed the locations of the other intruders?”

The Goa’uld inside Jack ceased using his hand device as he addressed Hathor, mercifully ending the painful torment for MacGyver. He lay on the floor, barely conscious and clinging to life.

“He has not,” Jack’s Goa’uld said. “In fact, he is as stubborn as my host.” He turned back to look at MacGyver.

‘MacGyver,’ Jack said in his mind. ‘Mac, can you hear me? Are you all right?’

‘Hmmm…’ MacGyver moaned in his mind.

‘Thank God you’re still alive,’ Jack said. ‘I’d never forgive myself if I let that snakehead kill you. Mac, come on. Please hear me. You can get through this.’

‘Mmmm….’

‘Mac! Snap out of it!’

‘Mmmm….’

Hathor grinned as she examined MacGyver. “He bears a strong resemblance to our new king,” she said, reaching down to stoke his chin as he lay on the ground, whimpering in pain. She looked back up at Jack. “There must be a strong bond between these two men. He could prove to be another valuable host. Think of all the information we can learn from the both of them, not to mention the pleasure I could have with two handsome hosts.”

‘Yuck,’ Jack said in his mind.

‘The decision is not up to you, human,’ his Goa’uld said, this time hearing his thoughts. ‘You are weak. Nothing. I own you.”

Jack struggled for a smart response, but the Goa’uld once again succeeded in silencing him.

“We will take him to my chambers,” Hathor said. “Once he is a host, he will tell us where his friends are, and once they are eliminated, he will join our royal kingdom and advance our interests.”

“I wouldn’t count on it,” Sam said, stepping out from behind the wall they hid behind, Daniel and Teal’c with her.

Teal’c fired his staff weapon at Hathor, but she quickly jumped out of the way.

“Kill them!” She shouted at Jack.

Jack prepared his hand device, but a rumble sounded through the palace, sending the structure shaking.

“What’s happening?” Daniel asked.

A blast erupted, striking the wall, sending a chunk of stone crashing near them. They heard several Jaffa and Serpent Guards running down the hallway to meet Hathor and Jack.

“My Lord and Queen, we are under attack,” one of them said.

Angrily, Hathor turned to face SG-1. “You have brought this upon us,” she said. “For that, you will pay dearly with your lives.”

Both she and Jack began to power their hand devices, aiming them at the team. Another chunk of wall fell, almost crushing Hathor. She screamed as she fell to the ground, narrowly missing it.

“My Queen!” Jack’s Goa’uld shouted, turning to assist her.

More weapons ripped through the palace, sending the structure crumbling around them.

“Retreat!” Hathor cried, struggling to her feet. She looked at Jack. “We must prepare for battle. Come.”

Jack turned to follow her, but Sam shot him with her Zat, knocking him unconscious. She wiped tears from her eyes, hating to do it to him, but it was the only way they could get him to come back to earth with them.

“No!” Hathor shouted. Angrily, her eyes glowed and she tried to blast Sam, but a large section of wall fell, separating her from the team.

“Come on!” Sam shouted, running over to the unconscious bodies of Jack and MacGyver. “Teal’c, take Jack.”

Nodding, Teal’c carefully scooped Jack up in his arms, carrying him as if he were a child. Daniel and Sam helped MacGyver to his feet.

“Wha…” MacGyver mumbled, his eyes open to slits.

“It’s going to be okay,” Sam said to him. She looked around the deteriorating palace, listening to the reverberations of weapon fire. “I wonder who’s attacking,” she said.

“I have no idea,” Daniel said.

“We must evacuate this area immediately,” Teal’c said, watching as the palace fell around them.

“It’s miles to the stargate,” Daniel said. “How are we going to get there?”

Looking at the wall near them, Teal’c found an activator for a ring transport system. “Here,” he said.

Recognizing the device, Sam and Daniel dragged MacGyver’s limp body over to the area on the floor that would transport them once the rings were activated and stood, waiting while Teal’c pressed the button and joined them.

“I just hope these still work,” Sam said.

Minutes later, she got her answer as the rings descended from the ceiling, dropping down around them. A bright flash of light enveloped them, and they disappeared. The ceiling caved in soon after they left.

The rings brought them directly to the stargate. Ships flew above them, firing upon any and all Goa’uld targets they could find, creating massive explosions and destruction all around them.

“Those look like Tok’ra ships,” Sam said, looking up at them.

“Could be,” Daniel said, “but I don’t want to stick around much longer to find out for sure.” He flinched as a fireball exploded near him.

Teal’c activated the stargate. “We must go, now,” he said.

They ran, even though Jack and MacGyver slowed them. Once they reached the stargate, they stopped briefly to view the devastation of Hathor’s world. The once lush mountains were charred, and her palace was in ruins. Her paradise was gone. Satisfied and hoping she had been killed in the attack, they turned and disappeared through the wormhole back to the SGC, knowing they had more challenges ahead to face with MacGyver’s recovery and the attempt to reclaim Jack’s soul from the Goa’uld inside him.

To be continued…
