I just heard this quote in a Burn Notice episode. And couldn't help thinking of MacGyver.

"Guns make you stupid. Better to fight your wars with duct tape. Duct tape makes you smart."

Well, the press releases did say Burn Notice was the new MacGyver. I watched it for a bit, didn't know what to expect... Not Mac, but entertaining. 'Though if he's quoting the rules of duct tape, I may have a second look.

The main character seems to be "human" like MacGyver too

In last nights episode he made a comment about his broken rib.

something along the lines of "It doesn't" matter how much training you've had a broken rib still hurts."

And he was talking to a kid about getting beaten up. He said "I've done Karate for 30 years and served in special forces combat all over the world, but last night I still got the crap kicked out of me.

So in that respect he's kinda MacGyverish as well.

I wouldn't say it's a new MacGyver.. just a show with a few MacGyver like qualities.

The main character, swears, uses a gun, and I think actually likes shooting people. But he does have some MacGyver like tendencies.

I'm an avid watcher of this show. it's about as close to MacGyver as you get now-a-days. I like when he builds his little gadgets or gets out of tricky situations in cool ways.

in one episode, he ran out of bullets, so he turned his gun into a spear gun with a screwdriver and some other tools, and Fiona afterward said "You really are just like him, aren't you?" which was a nod to MacGyver.

his voice overs remind me of the first seasons of MacGyver.

MacGyver is MacGyver. So I enjoy Burn Notice as not a new MacGyver but the other.

Just watched Burn Notice Pilot on the net. It does have some 'MacGyver feel', such as the gadgets, sense of humor, etc., but the background behind the story is totally different from MacGyver. I do like some of its quotes, though, like 'gun makes you stupid, duct tape makes you smart!'
