Recently, I was assigned to create a product for my Health Class. Well, I racked my brain and came up blank. Then I came to this wonderful place and had a revelation: I should do a MacGyver product!
But what to do? An action figure? No, to time-consuming. A book? No, already did that. A Kit? A-HA! I quickly went to work. Sanding the burnt labels out of a cigar box, I had my container. I filled it with paperclips, rubberbands, twine, etc. But then came the fun part. I had to design the box art.
Using the quote "If you don't have the right tools for the job, make it yourself" as a launching point, I created the cover. It also included "This Product is Endorsed and Approved by (Phoenix Foundation Logo)." No one else got the joke, but I had a great time. The back had a list of contents. Various chemicals, household items, and other 'doo-dads' formed the actual product. The back had "testimonials" from Mac and Pete. It even had an ad for the "mega SAK (the jumbo one you may have seen)." Only 300 UPC's away from you! The humor continued inside with a list of Mac's creations. Smokescreen and lockpicks are among the examples. With the "DELUXE EDITION (Not sold at a retailer near you)", Mac made a nuclear device, a car, a Boeing 747, and lemon meringue pie. Sure I exaggerated, but it was funny and I knew what I was exaggerating about. The grade on it is pending...
