I've always loved the song that plays in the Flight to Dinota in the "Jack of Lies" episode. I saw that clip on this web site, but I'm wondering if anyone knows the song/artist so I can look for a full version. So far I haven't had any luck. This would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I believe that piece of music was an original recording done for the episode by Bruce Babcock.
They generally didn't use pre-recorded music in MacGyver. Obviously it cuts down the headaches re: copyright for later distributions if all the music is original to the episode.
Does anybody have any more info on this song? I know it is in the list for download, but I'm really craving the full version of this! It's an amazing guitar riff!

Hi Nyheim and welcome to MacGyverOnline.
Just a quick thought, has anyone tried to Shazam it? (For those who don't know what I';m talking about, the App Shazam can listen to the track and try to find out who is performing it)

Yes, I've tried to use Shazam, but it can't identify it. Probably because the soundtrack isn't very famous. I'm truly desperate to get my hands on the full version of this!
And by the way, Bruce Babcock did not compose the music for this episode as suggested above. He did indeed make music for the show at the time, but not for this spesific episode, so there is someone else involved here.

After some research, I found that Randy Edelman was the music composer for this episode. Although IMDB says he did the theme music. So there must be another party involved for the in-scene music.
I need to see the end credits for that episode if someone could be of help. I've even sent an e-mail to Paramount Studios asking them for help.

After some more research I found that Steve Danforth was the music editor for the episode. I guess my only hope on getting my hands on the original is to contact him and ask if he remembers the name of the artist.
There was one interview made with Steve Danforth in [themacgyverproject.blogspot] website.
Maybe you can ask from there to get his contact
Yes, I could give it a shot!
Honestly, I think it is disappointing that Paramount didn't give credits to the artist, or released the full song (If it turn out to be music produced only for the series). But I guess that's how it was in the 80's and 90's.
Music that good should not be kept locked away, but published. I mean, it sounds like the song could match up to the Top Gun Anthem which gained extreme popularity when the movie was released in 1986, the same year as "Jack of Lies" was released.
I'm surprised that the artist who composed and recorded the soundtrack didn't publish it as his own work. That too I guess has to do with contracts and legal stuff regarding Paramount actually owning the soundtrack.
This is a lot of hassle over a guitar riff, I know, but to me, it sounds like one of the sweetest riffs I've ever heard, being that I love 60's, 70's and 80's music.

Even without asking Steve I'm reasonably confident that it was Randy Edelman who composed the guitar riff from Jack of Lies (which is indeed a very cool riff). In addition to composing the main theme, Edelman scored several episodes in seasons 1 and 2 including some of my favorite scores like The Gauntlet, Thief of Budapest, Trumbo's World, Phoenix Under Siege, Bushmaster, and Three for the Road. He also scored Jack of Lies and I would be surprised if they got the guitar riff from elsewhere. I don't think there will be an original that you can get your hands on other than what is in the episode -- it is unfortunate that there was never a CD made with all the great background music from the series.
The music was so well thought out in the original and often made up for a less than average script. Live orchestra matching the intensity of the scene and the ambiance of the landscape. The reboot has their work cut out for them in this respect .....

So far I haven't found any information about the song on the web. My feeling is that the song was recorded for the scene, and won't be accessible in a full form.
