Chapter 10: Drilling for Answers
Mac slid through the door frame, Jack close behind. A hallway ran into the distance. Mac shrugged and followed it. One particular door was padlocked. MacGyver figured that this was their best bet for Bruce. He tested its strength with a few powerful tugs. Not even a budge.

Mac turned and eyed the other doors suspiciously. The next was unlocked. He stepped inside to find a storeroom of sorts. Anonymous crates piled to the ceiling and a tiny fan spun quickly, cooling nothing. The device was connected to a humming generator, hidden beneath a desk. Mac turned to the stucco wall. Bruce was on the opposite side.

He turned back to the fan. Its metal blades reflected his look of epiphany. He reached for it and simultaneously retrieved his SAK. Using the screwdriver attachment, he unscrewed the cage obscuring the blades. Mac felt more air rush at him. Carefully, he reached around and turned off the power. The three sharp arms slowed to a halt. Mac picked the whole machine and felt the shimmering blades. He nodded. It could work he thought.

He bent the blades, one-by-one. They all formed a circle, the blades bent out towards him. Mac faced the brittle wall and turned on the newfound drill. He felt the force of the rotation run through his hands. The swirling blades touched the wall, dust spitting everywhere. The metal sank deeper into the sandy divider. Mac held the device in place until no more resistance was felt.

He turned it off and slid it out. A circle was left in the wall, its pattern outlined in deep ruts. Mac set his fingers on it and gave a slight push. The circle fell in, revealing a hole into the other room.

A bruised man was crumpled up in a corner. He was bewildered, but still overjoyed, as he witnessed his unusual rescue. He leaned on the wall, inching up to his feet, and limped to the opening. He inspected it and nodded in admiration. He sent one arm through, the other following, and crawled through the tunnel. Jack eased him to his feet, Mac steadying him. He finally hit the floor with a thud and managed to croak.

“Thank you. I cannot express my gratitude. How are we getting out of here?” he continued with much effort.

Mac thought for a minute. He hadn’t thought that far ahead yet. He was interrupted by the beating of helicopter blades outside. He found their escape. Jack looked at him and already answered his question. “I can fly choppers” Mac envisioned Jack saying. The three staggered out into the hall and turned down the hall. They headed in the opposite direction from which they entered. A door opened up into the courtyard. Mac peeked outside.

The soldiers had ceased the search for the flying hubcap. A man in full military garb stepped out of the black chopper. Numerous ribbons and patches covered his jacket. He strode to the building catty-corner from theirs. As he was opening the door to enter, Mac had a plan. He pulled out his SAK and stuck it under his jacket. He turned and instructed Jack.

“Pretty soon this is gonna go really bad. When it does, take Bruce to the chopper and get him to the plane. Forget about me…”

I give you a 5!!!
And I gotta say... you're writing has gotten WONDERFUL!!! Is so nice to read! w00t.gif

Suggestions:

A. In the third paragraph... perhaps it would be best to separate what Mac thought from the rest of the paragraph...
