I just rewatched 'The Stringer' and it was absolutely freaky because it's the only episode that I clearly remember watching when it first aired. I could quote 90% of the dialogue verbatim. There are a lot of other eps I remember seeing when I was that young, but not where I was or what I was doing at the time. With TS I remember a lot of details. I was thirteen and at work (it was okay to watch tv ) and I remember hearing RDA say his little farewell and bursting into tears! I'd been watching the show since I was six, so that was an important chunk of my formative years I'd spent with Mac. After TS, I didn't see the show again for a long time. When I did, it was ten years and about as many lives later. It was shocking to discover that the woman I'd become loved the show as much and found it as resonant as did an impressionable thirteen year old girl.
Anyone else have memories of watching Mac when it was first on and then rediscovering it? What about the younger members who have only just discovered MacGyver, what brought you to the fold?
Mac not watching season 7 in order and trying to see how long she can resist watching the only ep she's never seen--The Mountain of Youth. Probably another ten minutes or so.

Well I was brought to the fold about a year ago. It was a complete fluke. I had just gotten two of my wisdom teeth removed and my face was swollen more than two times it size. Obviously I wasn't going anywhere, I basically spent 2 or 3 days just laying in bed doing nothing. I was randomly flipping through the channels around 2:00 or 3:00 when I saw something that looked interesting on Spike TV. It turned out to be the Back from the Dead episode from season 3. I thought it was great and as I watched it I remembered my mom telling me that when I was younger we use to watch MacGyver together (I was really young so I don't remember it myself). My mom loved the show, and I guess I am taking after her in that aspect.
After that I stayed home from school for half a sememster due to back surgery that I had to have, and everyday I would watch the episode on Tv Land at 10 or 11 and the episode on Spike at 2 or 3. I was hooked (I just wanted to use this one since it was new)

Of not being older then 4 or 5 at the time, I remember seeing Cease Fire, Halloween Knights and Out in the Cold. Then later The Gun, Twenty Questions, Harry's Will, Lesson in Evil and Jerico Games.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
I remember in a far far away memory, not being older then four or five at the time, I watched along with my brother episodes like Cease Fire, Halloween Knights and Out in the cold. Later I watched regularly with my mother and her then boyfriends mostly The Gun, Twenty Questions, Harry's Will and Lesson in Evil.
I remember the first time when I watched The Stringer. I was 14 and home alone. Got back from school and always sat five minutes before the show started in my seat. I remember my mother saying when she got back home that she thought Sam was an impostor. And of course in the end I couldn't believe it was over.

The thing I most remember about the first run of MacGyver was that I had to try to persuade/force/bribe my little sister in to taping it for me as it was on a Saturday afternoon and I had a Saturday job. If she was in a good mood I got to watch it on a Sunday morning but if she was being a pain I missed it totally.
I’m not convinced that the whole 7 series was shown over here. I’m sure it was only on for one summer or something. The episode I remember most clearly is the Human Factor. I loved it and remembered most of it when I got the DVD’s. I wasn’t quite able to quote it though. I also remember the To Be a Man episode clearly. I’m guessing they only showed season 1 and a bit of season 2 but I’m pretty sure I saw the Stringer but that makes no sense! Maybe I just have read so much about it that it feels like I know it. I’ll see when my DVD’s get here if it seems familiar. Either that or they just showed a bunch of random muddled up episodes.
I remember when I saw an episode without the opening gambit taped for the first time because I remember giving my sister a row for missing the start of the episode and then having to apologise when I found out from a friend later that there was no gambit! Whoops!

It's neat that we were quite close in age when Mac was first airing. It just goes to show that MacGyver can appeal to people of all ages.
Sam as an imposter, huh? I dunno, he has those chocolate brown eyes of Mac's....
I'm a bit of a nomad (eg. I once moved six times in five years), been at my current place for three years (which is a record) and am planning on leaving in the spring. I've quoted for 14 years, whenever someone asks me why the heck I can't stay put, that... "I'm never happy unless I'm on the road to somewhere else." Yeah, Mac's had a big influence on my life.
Thinking warm this time. Just learned that the BF is being transferred to California so, who knows where I'll wind up next.

I discovered "MacGyver" in 1989 at the age of 16. It's not my fault, we just had gotten the opportunity to watch TV from Western Germany and so we watched. Everything. Even commercials. It was all new and wonderful.
MacGyver was aired back then at Thursday evening at 8 PM - Prime Time. I did not know anything about TV-series and seasons and so I don't know which season or which episode it was we watched.
The important thing is that my parents liked it also right from the first time we saw it and therefore we watched it together every week (I didn't have my own TV at that time so I had to watch what they wanted to watch). My brother was too young though and had to sleep at that time and that was the reason he did not recognize Rick in "Stargate" later on.
After the series had ended in the early nineties there were reruns at afternoons which I only watched randomly, when I thought an episode sounded interesting. I clearly remember "Strictly business" from that time, for example.
After I had started to watch "Stargate" many years later they were due to start a complete rerun of all seven MacGyver-seasons at afternoons at 4 PM. I thought about watching it for once in the right order so that I could be sure not to miss any episode, but then I decided it would be too much trouble to tape it every day since I was at work at that time.
And just like Pseodonym with her wisdom teeth it happened that I was ill and at home for a whole week when the pilot aired. So I watched the first five episodes and after that was hooked again and really taped it every day and watched it when I got home after work for several months. And after the last episode they immediately started again so I watched everything for the second time. Just couldn't stop
Every weekend I discussed the recent five episodes with my brother who also watched it every day. And I detected that I somehow missed my fix on Saturday and Sunday.
Two episodes were never aired in Germany: "The Ten Percent Solution" (I think you can imagine why though I actually don't understand it) and "Harry's Will" (I really don't know the reason for that. Did they think we would not understand the humour?)

I remember watching nightmeres, out in the cold, Doa MacGyver. And fighting with my brother as he wanted to turn it over and watch the A team as Mac was on BBC 1 and the A team on ITV. But both shown at 3pm on a saturday afternoon.
As you can guess......I won.....big sister rules....

Which came first? The Jeep or MacGvyer?
I grew up watching Mac from beginning to end, but I think I was destined to be a MacGyver fanatic before it even started! I've always been a tomboy, and I remember for my 5th birthday my gramma took me to a toy store and told me I could pick anything I wanted! Of course she started me out in the dolls and girlie stuff and eventually I made my way to the Tonka aisle!! I chose a green Tonka Jeep Wrangler (yep, it even said Wrangler on the hood) with a canoe, a dirt bike and two action figures! So I was a Jeep-nut before I was a Mac-nut! But that was the logical next step...LOL!
I was 12 when the show first aired and watched it faithfully all the way through till it ended when I was in college. Having now seen S7 for the first time in 14 years, I think I’m pretty safe saying I saw every single episode during it’s first run! After college, I rarely caught reruns because I started out with no TV and for probably 10 years I’ve survived on one station and it didn’t carry MacGyver! My rediscovery came when one of my best friends bought me Season 1 for my birthday...I hadn’t even known it was on DVD!!! I don’t even know how she knew it was my favorite show, but I’m guessing I must have told her at some point! After that, I was hooked again, and then started wondering if there were others who were as crazy over Mac as I was...that’s when I found MOL!
The eps that most stuck in my memory were the ones where he helped kids, especially the Challenger Club ones and Ugly Duckling, Cease Fire, Nightmares...and of course the Murdoc eps were always my favorite. Some scenes that are forever burned in my memory are the RIP MacGyver scene in Widowmaker...I’m not sure why—it just left an impression on me, MacGyver’s reaction to Booker’s death in The Challenge, Mac stuck in that chair and also the car exploding in Strictly Business, when Mac crashed into that car in Passages, and when he was shot in Good Knight 2. I remember crying, laughing, being angry, shocked...at times I got so immersed that my Mom actually threatened to turn it off because of how I was reacting...when it was on, I didn’t just watch MacGyver, I became MacGyver!

I can clearly remember when MacGyver first aired in New Zealand.
I was 14 and MacGyver played at 7:30 on Saturday nights, right before the feature movie at 8:30. It replaced a short lived series called Q.E.D. which was about an eccentric MacGyver-like American professor who used his knowledge of science to solve mysteries in Edwardian London.
I remember watching the pilot episode with my parents and commenting at the end of the show about how it followed suit of the QED show from last week and was a good entertaining show.
I have quite vivid memories of it actually, I can remember laying on the sofa, my father sitting in his chair reading a book, my mother in her chair knitting, their old wooden foot-stool directly in front of me...
strangely though, it never struck me as being an awesome show or anything at the time, although I do think it touched on my adventure game tendencies at the time, which is probably what initially drew me into the show; the way MacGyver collected stuff along the way and used it, was VERY adventure game-like.
