Given the comments on this page, I wasn't expecting to like the episode as much as I did
Lulu is one of those people who are extremely talented at one thing (music), but have that talent at the expense of common sense. I know several people who are brilliant in their particular fields but can hardly be trusted to cross the road unsupervised!
I like how Mac hasn't a clue what to do with her - he alternates between being horrified at her behaviour and impressed when she does something clever, like pinching the guard's handcuff keys. He's completely wrong-footed throughout the whole episode, which I find funny
Mac does scrub up well in the tux, but I think I still prefer the t-shirt/waistcoat/jeans look from Holy Rose, or the frock coat and top hat from Hallowe'en Knights

My 13 year old son found Lulu highly amusing when I watched this episode last night. He sat laughing ta her calling her a crazy women.
She does have a certain Penny Parker quality to her, although she was much more active than Penny, by which I mean she actually got stuck in and did what needed to be done - all be it, in often in a rather unconventional way.
I mused when I saw MacGyver grab that rat and commented to my son that it was the tamest wild rat I had ever seen. Most wild rat would have sunk their teeth into his hand and ripped it to shreds with their claws, let alone actually going near a human in the first place.
One thing I really took from this episode was the Healthy hints. I am not sure if that is what Mr. Anderson and the producers wanted me to take from this episode, but I really took them personally. I am only a few years older than Mr. Anderson was at that time and he was in fantastic shape. I liked how he encouraged Wilt after their bike ride. Also their comments at the end of the episode where Wilt feels and looks better after adopting Mac's healthy diet. I am quite out of shape, but this episode just drove home the encouragement I needed to begin getting myself healthy!!!
Here's to getting healthy enough to do the things I want to do. I have already hit the local mountain bike trail for the first time ever!
Congratulations on adopting a healthier lifestyle! I have gotten more active over the past six months and I feel better physically and emotionally for sure.
As far as this episode, I did not like it very much. Lulu was very annoying and they made her a terrible driver. I wish there were more strong female characters on this show.
Are you kidding me? - a missing and mysterious Stradivarius up for grabs with Mac in the middle of a damsel in distress and a pair of import/export thugs. Being a classical music buff with hundreds of classical music recordings including dozens of Mozart releases in my collection - I was salivating from the getgo with this episode. I'm initially thinking The Red Violin (an excellent film by the way) Mac Style.
But then ....... along came Lulu and with her a decided slapstick schtick. And really bad slapstick at that and which was a total mismatch for the rather sophisticated plot. Can we really believe that that ditz was capable of playing such sweet music when she could barely get her car around a city block?
Okay, it wasn't all that bad but it could have been a heck of alot better and the Lulu character could have, should have, would have, in a perfect world, been cast as a sexy, intelligent prototypical virtuoso that would have more drawn in both the male audience and Mac himself.

I watched this episode again last night (totally random choice, just pulling a disc out of the box and going with that one).
Good grief! Come back Penny Parker, all is forgiven! And who in their right mind granted that bubblehead a driving licence?!
Ya know, there's an SG-1 episode (I watched it last week and can't remember the title off the top of my head but I can see the episode), but there's a woman off-world who looks just like her..... need to research whether they're the same person or not
Ahhh, yes it is her! She plays Gairwyn in Thor's Hammer/Thor's Chariot and guess what, she plays a D.A. in Beyond Betrayal with RDA too!

I saw this episode ONCE, back in the day, and refuse to ever watch it again. Lulu irritated the heck out of me. I was astonished that Mac didn't just throw his hands up and leave her to her own schemes, wherever they may have ended up.
One of my very few complaints about this show was the dearth of intelligent female characters.
Do not pity the dead. Pity the living, and above all, those who live without love. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
You don't eat things like that, you call pest control! Kate in The Gauntlet
What's that? Lateral... cranial... impact... enhancer. *whack* Last Stand
Yes, I'd have to agree ... the female characters, as a whole, were not exactly the epitome of empowerment to women.
I don't know why they choose this decided stance. If I recall correctly, it may have had something to do with the female viewing audience and their preferences within their written correspondence to the network.
But in reality and at the end of the day, the target audience and ultimate viewing audience was decidedly a male one and the constant barrage of bimbo's did little, if anything for this show in the ratings department.

Who said that? The fact that they received so many letters shows it wasn't decidedly male, right? Anyway they weren't about female character's intelligence, they were to keep MacGyver free from a steady female character (like Nikki) if I'm not wrong.
Speaking about the episode, it's true that Lulu recalls Penny in "Everytime she smiles" (complete with handcuffed together), but I like the interaction Mac/Lulu, it makes me smile (poor Mac!).
Not as good as many others, but it's a funny episode to judging too seriously, good to choose (along with a few others) when I need to cheer up.

This has to be one of het weakest episodes of them all. Mac really gets dragged into a situation he has nothing to do with. She deliberately takes him somewhere else.
But I guess that's just it. You have these episodes that just blow you away and than you have missers like this one.

I don't think this one is really a "misser". I actually like this episode a lot. Its fun to watch Mac get dragged around against his will by some eccentric woman over a violin.
Poor Lulu... so much hate. Don't worry Lulu, I like you. <3

I remember the Thor's Hammer episode and you're right, completely different type of character than she played here in Lost Amadeus. I will have to re-watch the SG-1 episode again to see "Lulu" in it.

I just stumbled over this episode by accident. It wasn't a total flop, however the writers could have done a much better job on the "bad" guys. I still can't get over Lulu practically burying her head in Mac's lap. I got a pretty good chuckle from that.

I voted Below Average.
Mainly because of Lulu, so annoying. She and the bad guys were caricature-like. And the plot... everything was kind of surreal, or difficult to believe how Mac got involved in something like that while he was just riding his bike.
The only good thing was his good looks in that costume.

Heck, he even manages to look good in the jester trousers from "Hallowe'en Knights".

It takes a bad episode and this one is even the "worst" of the whole series. Bad actor, even disappointed Mac (it's the first time) how can he fall in love with this girl? Ridiculous storyline, horrible music. In France this episode is also considered the worst of all and it even has a score below 10/20 and it is the only one .., To forget, next.

My 9 year old says this episode is boring.
I'm inclined to agree with him. I actually thought about switching it off at one point.
Nothing seems to really work for this episode, there's some humor, but that wore off pretty fast when I realized it was the only thing keeping me awake.
This one goes to the bottom of the pile
