From time to time I notice a couple of MacGyver scripts roll through on Ebay.com for bids. I am curious about the names on some. I realize that in early drafts, the name might be different from what it's properly known as. For instance, I've seen a script for "SX-1" available on Ebay, which is obviously an early version of "GX-1".
But I've also seen a script that's marked as the final draft from March 12, 1986 and it's called "Mad Man". Does anyone know if this is an early name for an episode or if it's just a discarded and unfilmed script?

Interesting... the name doesn't seem to fit any of the episodes from around that time. My first reaction was it sounded like nightmares.. but that was filmed in Jan 86, so it's a bit early.

Sounds like it could be a very early - in the development stages of a script of "The Widowmaker" or "Partners" from season 3?
Maybe a prototype of Murdock - in the very early stages of his development. And the timing would be right... Anyone else??

Hey! Now that would make sense.

Those psychiatric hospitals did have the undignified nickname of "mad house" back in the day and people where referred to as being mad.. so that would definitely fit.

I agree Rock. What was it Dr. Zito says to his shrink in Lesson in Evil about people being left to rot in their madness, and feeling at home in an asylum? Prisoner of Conscience would be my guess. "Mad Man" is not quite as good of a title. Prisoner of Consicence was about rescuing a man, not insane at all, but locked up for challenging his government, which was corrupt.

Hmm- yeah, "A Prisoner of Conscience" does seem to make the most sense...
Just wondering- always interesting to ponder what might have been
