Earlier in the season, they were able to persuade the government of Indonesia to turn away one of the Japanese whalers' ships that needed repairs to resume the hunt. Australia and New Zealand already have a set policy forbidding the whalers use of their ports; now Indonesia has joined them.

Now if we could could just get Australia and New Zealand to grow a spine and actually enforce the southern whale sanctuary instead of letting the whalers use it as a hunting ground!

At least they're standing up to the whalers and not letting them use their ports. That's part of what brought Indonesia in line, so that the Japanese craft could not refuel or make repairs in any Indonesian port

The overall plan of Sea Shepherd is to break the Japanese whaling industry by making it too expensive. If the whalers have to go all the way back to Japan to make repairs, that's a very expensive proposition. So Australia and New Zealand are helping, even if only passively.

They needed repairs because the Japanese fleet had run into heavy pack ice after encountering the Sea Shepherd vessel -- they suffered damage to a propeller.

Maybe they need to work on a way of making instant ice. Then they could just follow the whaling ships around spraying the motion solution at them and making ice all around them.

Imagine how much of a pain that would be to the whalers.

Although I must say I would still rather see the countries actually defend the sanctuary they've set up. Otherwise whats the point of having it.
