Do you guys think MacGyver has a middle name? I mean, we found out he has a first name, but what about a middle name? If you think he has one, what do you think it is?
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer."
I would think if he had one, he would use it instead of Angus.
So my guess would be no, he doesn't have one.
However if he where to have one I would expect it to be James because his family struck me as being traditional and as such would observe the old tradition of the first son having the fathers first name as his middle name.

Stace. Angus Stace MacGyver. Nice ring if you pronounce it: 'Angus Stays MacGyver.'
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

I like the reasoning that if he'd had a middle name at all, he might have used it, rather than paring back to the patronymic. Or it might have been even worse than Angus, leaving him completely without options.
I suppose it could have been something dreadfully Gaelic, long, unpronounceable and unspellable. Or it could have been a surname that didn't render into a nickname. (My own middle name is an old family surname that had daughtered out.)

It could have been in Scots (not Gaelic), or perhaps even Scottish English.

Scots is Gaelic. To be precise, the Gaelic language spoken in Scotland is usually referred to as Gaelic, less frequently as Scots Gaelic or Scots, while the Gaelic language spoke in Ireland is now generally referred to as Irish, less frequently as Irish Gaelic or Gaelic.
The other Gaelic languages are referred to simply by their geographical designations: Welsh, Cornish, Manx, and Breton. Galician and Asturian are Latinate languages rather than Gaelic.

I always figured that Mac's middle name was 'Trouble'

I like Angus James MacGyver, but then how comes he wouldn't introduce himself as James MacGyver? He always gave the impression that MacGyver was his first name.

I'm Scottish...I beg to differ.
No need to beg; you may differ as much as you please. Since you were born in Missouri and have lived there for all of your 15 years, and have a particularly common Scots surname, you are Scottish-American on your father's side but not necessarily an authority.
I am also part Scots, and my research resources go considerably farther than Wikipedia.
I recommend that you be somewhat more careful in the future as to how much of your personal information you choose to put online, especially since you're still underage.

Angus Beef MacGyver sounds like a steak knife.
What if he'd been given his mother's maiden name as a middle name? Angus Jackson MacGyver -- another dead end as far as options for nicknames!

Scottish name... Aren't names which start with Mc generally Irish? Scottish are MAC and Irish are Mc or something like that? maybe it's a more modern thing.

He could have shortened his middle name to Jack.
He could have -- but he might have risked being confused with that darned Dalton kid.

There has been so much back-and-forth between Irish and Scots, especially in Northern Ireland and any of the port cities, that both Mc and Mac appear in both countries -- as well as being randomly scattered amongst their numerous descendents, who often married each other! Same with names like O'Neill. Both the O prefix and the Mac/Mc/mac prefix are from the common roots of the two different Gaelic languages. (Irish and Scots Gaelic are more closely related to each other than the other languages in the family.)
And three enthusiastic cheers for the overburdened mods for keeping our site clean! Thank you, Rocky and Nymphy!

Isn't it a coincidence that the two most well-known and successful characters that RDA played have a Scottish/Irish name?
Not that much of a coincidence. Scots-Irish heritage is very common on the US; and bear in mind that the character of Jack O'Neill (one L or two . . .) was originally created for the movie.

Which means what?
The point I was after was that the character name was originally held by a different actor. That's all.
