I don't think he has a middle name at all.

Of course, he could do, but Mr Zlotoff and the crew decided not to use or reference it anywhere.

If I had to guess, it could be something plain like John or Ian perhaps?

I thought I read somewhere that Mac's middle name was supposed to be Ian. Of course, it was never used, so we can't be sure. But Angus Ian MacGyver has a nice ring.

Another thing... he could have gone by a version of his first name... Gus.

Somehow he doesn't strike me as a Gus, but Angus Ian MacGyver does have a very cool, Scottish ring to it.

How about Angus Stace Ian MacGyver? Let's just put up the whole works there.

That's why he just goes by MacGyver--it isn't just the embarrassing first name--it's that he has too many names, period!

But don't a lot of men who have a last name with Mac or Mc go by Mac?

Most people go buy their first of second names.

There are some working environments where work-mates call each other by the last name, but I think it's more common to be called by a nick-name.

Anyway the answer is, no most people with a Mac or Mc in their name don't get it shortened to Mac.

Mac can also be a short version of Malcolm.

Malcolm...hmm...yet another possible middle name emerges....

No wonder he went by just MacGyver or Mac. If I had a name like Angus Malcom MacGyver I wouldn't dare use it either.

It must be a US thing with that name, cos other parts of the world don't make a big deal about it.

I know an 8 year old kid across the road from where my mother lives called Angus. So it's still being used.

And of coarse in Scotland it's a pretty common name.

My middle name is Woods, but my brother goes by the nickname Woody, and his middle name is Alan. I think everybody should be proud of their names, but I certainly would use Mac if I could. And he always introduced himself as MacGyver.
