Since we’re suspicious of the scriptwriters and their possible ulterior motives, let’s forget Murdoc and try a different variation.

The scenario:

Rambo arrives at a compound in Viet Nam. He’s been told it’s the hideout of Commie drug smugglers. He’s fully supplied with weapons, and plans on destroying the compound.

MacGyver’s also there. He says the compound is a cover for refugees being smuggled to safety, and he’s not going to let Rambo destroy it.

Rambo won’t listen to reason. If Mac gets in his way, he’s going to take Mac out.

What happens?
Who wins?
How?
Why?
How many things get blown up in the process?

I think Mac could safely get Rambo restrained long enough to prove that he is correct. I don't think Rambo would kill Mac but he would try to slow him down long enough to destroy the so-called smugglers. Rambo is a good reasonable guy behind the tough guy image.

But, since we are matching these guys up for a real fight, it would be the most exciting one, two guys who are the best at what they do with two totally different ways of approaching it.

After Mac dodges bullets, rockets, grenades, arrows, etc, I think Rambo would think that he killed Mac and then let his guard down long enough to have Mac sneak in and use some kind of dart or gas to sedate Rambo and bound him up.

Sadly I have to vote for Rambo in this one.

Mac is a genius in improvising anything he needs in the jungle but facing the heavy firearms that Rambo uses I think the best chance he has is escaping from his attack but not winning him.

I had to go with Mac. I am pretty confident he'd win.

Remember it wouldn't be the first time MacGyver has gone up against an army, or a well armed group of individuals, and won, so it's conceivable that he could go up against a well armed one-man army and still win.

I just haven't had a chance to think about how he would do it yet.

I think Mac would have more chance to get to Rambo in 1988. He seemed to be forgetting about 'Nam, he's more relaxed, looks like he's getting his life back on the tracks, before leaving for Afghanistan.

If Mac meets the John Rambo of the last film, he might have a few difficulties with the man. If Mac was on that boat with the missionaries and witnesses how Rambo fires three bullets in the head of the man that threatened them, he would react the same way as the missionary in the movie did. Than I wouldn't be surprised Rambo would push Mac to the side.

Though I think if they put their heads together they might come up with a few ingenious traps. Mac to catch them, Rambo to kill them.

Knowing Rambo he would destroy it and will not let anything get in the way.

Rambo reasonable? Maybe. At first impression, you might say he's not. He doesn't care about the world, especially not in the last film. But deep in there, there's something that he knows that what he has to do is the right thing.

MacGyver's smart enough to bribe Rambo with some blonde hussie. Asking to do it for her. Rambo wants to destroy it so Mac moves the refugees to somewhere else. Or it appears the refugees are the Commie drug dealers. If not the Commie drug dealers are using the refugees for their drugs.

They both win because they both get their chance to do their thing.

Mac using wits and building traps, just like Rambo will do. Rambo also takes his machine gun, just in case.

They do it because it's what they're good at. Mac does it for mankind, Rambo does it because he knows it's the right thing to do.

Everything gets blown up. The compound and probably a big part of the jungle too.

And what if Rambo is wrong? You just blew up the good guys.

I doubt Rambo would misunderstand his mission. I don't think he would care, but I don't think he wouldn't either.

I think Mac would end up convincing Rambo to calm down and they work together to rescue the immigrants and getting rid of the Commie drug smugglers. In the end the compound would be blown up.

Consider the phrasing here:

Still think Rambo's more likely to have his facts correct?

I'd rather start thinking Rambo's fine with everything as long as he gets to blow it up.
