Last day I was wathing The Gaunlet and I was wandering where can be situated this Mission. I think the episodie was shot in a studio, similar to Universal Studios where you can see latin american villages. Anyway i think the mission is so big to be a built place. I think they shot in a real place.

I'm almost temped to say the Old Tuscan Studios in Arizona, but they don't have concrete buildings like that.

There are a lot of little towns in southern California with old Spanish missions -- it's probably one of them. The mountains look like they could be the San Gabriels or the transverse ranges.

Yes, maybe you are right!

Maybe is one of the Old Missions from "El Camino Real" from Baja California to San Francisco. The founder was Fray Junipero Serra with 21 missions in Ca

It looks very similar to the old Santa Barbara mission.

Here's a site which might help you out... http://missions.bgmm.com/

You also need to remember that the scenes which follow immediately after that shot appear to be stock footage, rather than actual location shots.

I also wouldn't be surprised to find that the opening shot your asking about is a different location to where the other scenes where filmed.

Here's a bigger version of that shot.

Yes, it is similar.

Even at the beginning I thought about Santa Barbara Mission, but I realized the domes of the bell towers are different. Even the shape of the bell Towers I think is a square prism in Santa Barbara. And in MacGyver looks like a hexagonal prism, I think (one tower) and square (other tower).

I have a book about El Camino Real, but I didnīt find in it.

It look like very old, the time when spaniards were in California, Arizona, Texas... (XVII). Now is difficult to know what mission is it, but i am sure is it possible to guess it.

Filming was based in California. They were hardly going to go to another country, or even another state, when they could choose any of a dozen locations close to hand.

although they did for the pilot's opening gambit. wink.gif

Another option which should probably be considered is that that particular building might not be there anymore, or might just be ruins.

It doesn't look particularly maintained in that shot, so might have been already abandoned.
