I don't think they would change the color of Mac's SAK. But I can really see him hiding a Swiss tool if he were to have his SAK taken away from him. Like I said I don't see where it is really any bigger then the SAK, and correct me if I'm wrong but I remember SAK coming with a thing to connect them to the belt. sak.gif

Checked out the Swiss Arm knife website looked at the swiss tool. didn't look any different then what I had found. The even had a swiss card, a tool for golfers, and an SAK with a flashlight for rescue workers. Sounds like Mac could pick and choose what he wanted to use.

I really don't see where the Swiss tool is any bigger then the SAK.

As you can see from the below picture a Swiss tool is about 9-10 inchs long and about 4? inches wide.

Try holding your SAK in your hand like this guy is and look at the size difference.

I would think that if the producers wanted to have Mac carry both a swiss tool and the SAK they could probably have one made to order. I know that there are bigger SAKs then what Mac carried. And if Mac didn't carry a swiss tool then why couldn't some of his Macism rub off of Jack and he carry it for his airplanes?

sorry but the Swiss tool IS NOT 4" wide... it is 1 3/8 wide ( closed ) and 2 1/8 at
the end when is OPEM. Can go inside of a pocket ,easy.
the only problem with that is the weight .
someone can use it with a belt pouch but sometimes doesn't go with the Dress
code , But people have diferent taste and they can adjust for the ocasion....

That wasn't my picture. It seems that the SAK is more important then the characters or script. sak.gif

I'm sorry I just don't think a SAK is more important then the characters or actors who protrayed them. Dana Elcar was an icon Jack Anderson was an icon, Don S. Davis was an icon. Michael Des Barres is an icon and so is Richard Dean Anderson. I always thought of MacGyver as a forward thinking character. If the SAK is more important then why not name the movie SAK and MacGyver?

I'm not trying to be mean or disrespectful.

no no you have me wrong i didn't mean to say the SAK was more importment then the characters themselfs, I just said that the knife is an icon and without it, it wouldn't seem right, hope that clears it up open.gif

We all know that the SAK is going to be in the movie is some way, shape or form. But Sam and even Jack especially Jack might have a little MacGyverism in himself and find the Swiss tool very helpful on The airplanes. We all know Jack isn't quiet the mechanic he thanks he is. And Mac might find the Swiss tool helpful in getting them out of whatever trouble that they are in.

Even being a devout fan of the knives, I still sometimes take on tasks that call for a little extra power. I carry a Mechanic everywhere, it's a Tinker with pliers, but after 10 years of loving Mac and the red SAK's, I bought a used Swiss Tool just to check it out a few weeks ago. I have to say aside from carrying it on your belt that thing is too monstrous to keep on your person. And we all know Mac was fashionable enough not to do that. Supposedly the Spirit is a little milder, but still it is just not as pocketable as a knife.

A few things to rememer about the movie are 1) as Rocky said, Lee David Zlotoff is not the final word on props (AT ALL haha) 2) It's a bad economy and Victorinox, if involved, might prefer to try to place their $60 plier tools rather than $20 pocket knives, and 3) Leatherman is not even a threat. Has anyone actually checked one out? Except for the huge clunky ones, you have to open the pliers to open the blade, then close the pliers. I don't think so- MacGyver was most often using his knife when time was of the essence- he would never go for that sort of nonsense. In fact, Victorinox on their multi-tools have it arranged so you can still open the blades with the pliers closed, so if my some odd chance a tool was used, it would still be Victorinox.

But I agree with everyone who says the red handles were iconic. And the knife itself worked for a reason. It went with what MacGyver was, and how he worked. It was light, compact, had a few tools that offered a wide diversity of possibilities, but it wasn't weighed down, or overly complex.

A good example is watching the Heist. MacGyver uses an Executive, a pretty small knife, quite a few times. It only has 5 blades, and if you watch very closely in the electrical panel room scene, RDA makes a little blooper. He starts to open the scissors, then in the cut scene immediately following, he is using a screwdriver. Even something so simple was pushing the limit of overcomplexity for him. The whole point wasn't to take everything he could possibly ever need and fit it into one tool.

That all said, if they want to add a touch of the present to the knife, without changing the format or pattern, there are a few innovations that I would find acceptable to use:

Yes. yes I have. cool.jpg

Actually I made a post about it somewhere in here. Talking about how it was heavy, bulky and complicated to use and I too thought MacGyver would never use one.

Apart from the pliers there's really nothing to gain from it. They have the same blades and functions as a SAK and several times the size and weight. And considering how often we see MacGyver using pliers I can't see any reason why he would change. He wasn't' the kind of person who just updated stuff because it was the latest. We know this from things like his bomber jacket and jeep.

Is that a flash drive in the second picture? It looks like to me they could make the SAK with a some pliers if Mac really needed them. But what I do I know. If they can make things bigger why can't they make them smaller? I really don't see Mac carrying around a SAK with a flash drive on it. But times and technology change.

Know that I think about that. Mac certainly could use a flash drive. Think of all the interesting stuff he would have on it. Just kind of surprised me, to see one on a Swiss Army Knife. But like I said technology changes day by day minuet by minuet.

I hope they incorporate it somehow into the new movie. hmm.bmp sak.gif open.gif

He might try, but I don't think a flash drive can do that. I just wonder what type of intelligence secrets he would have on it. Might make a interesting plot for the movie. sak.gif

Um, you guys are talking about different things.

SMeeceymouse is talking about a Flash-DRIVE - the USB computer card sticking out of the second SAK.

while Beachbead is talking about a flash light which is also shown in the second picture.

QUOTE (Beachbead)

I knew I was talking about the flash drive. When she started talking about Mac using it to open a door, then I knew we were talking about something entirely different. I still would like to know what Mac would have on his flash drive. And to be fair. My flash drive gives off a green light when it is plugged into the computer. sak.gif
