Ok let me make this a little more fun.....

WE no longer live in the 80's , so Mac will have to move on to new things....
maybe NOT a Swisstool , maybe NOT a swiss knife with Flash drive ( we can see
how it could be used to grab Info in a secret location / spy / computer Tech etc )
AND here is a twist. CELL PHONE. Why he wouldn't have one ??
You can't tell me like Swisstool size and weight are a problem....but a Phone ???
So, there are many things in this NEW movie that have to be updated or they
should re-run some episode with new TV / MOVIE technology.
Be Prepared to see NEW things , that's how I think it will be.

Maybe the movie will suck but only time will tell.

I can see Mac carrying a SAK, Swiss tool and a very thin cell phone, along with a flash drive. They would have to update to movie to attrack the audience that never got to see the orgional. I wonder what Mac would do to his cell phone, that the rest of us can't. Be interesting to find out.

It'll have to be an unreliable el-cheapo phone, otherwise when-ever MacGyver gets into trouble he will just call for back up.

"Pete, I'm trapped in a warehouse down on peir 37, got some guys using me for target practice."

"OK, Mac, keep them entertained for a few minutes, cops are on their way."

I know. The cell phone sure kills a lot of suspense these days, doesn't it?

I know that the phones with the touch screens are pretty thick. Although I can see Mac carrying a cell phone, I don't know of much he could do with it. I would rather see him carry the good old SAK. But remember on Get Smart Max had shoe phone. It didn't seem to help him out that much either.

Yeah, my thought exactly There's still 1) wilderness area with no access, 2) mass disasters would create an overload gridlock, or 3) the bad guys take all your cool stuff up front like in Nightmares But then he wouldn't have a knife or duct tape... Or, if he's like me, he can forget to charge his phone half the time

Things like EMP pulses would take out communication too, but that's actually already been done by MacGyver

Started to watch the Black Corsage last night. Loved the 20+ cell phone Mac had in his pick up truck. Of course this was during the NASCAR race in Richmond,VA.

Just having a cell phone back in those days was pretty high tech, so I always assumed it was a phoenix phone and not his personal phone.

Probably so. It reminded me of the AARP commerical here in the US where a man is driving the same car he has had for twenty years, and the phone is the same big clunky thing that Mac had in his truck.
