Hey why not ask Randy Elderman to come back and do the orgional MacGyver theme? They had some drunk guy on youtube playing the MacGyver theme, he could probably do it in the laughable moments.

I've gotten quite good at playing the MacGyver theme on the piano-- it's a fun song to play. Not overly difficult, but it sounds good.

I also figured out some of the other themes from the show, such as the "MacGyverism in progress" theme from Seasons 1 and 2, the "Running around" theme from season 4, and the love theme from "Lost Love Parts 1 and 2."

But, alas, I probably won't get hired to do the soundtrack

How about Christopher Franke (formerly in Tangerine Dream, did the complete score for Babylon 5, with the Berlin Symphony (or was it Philarmonic?) Orchestra - some really epic stuff?

Btw, I've got Mac's theme on my Nokia 3510i... At least it's different than everyone else around me when my phone goes off.

I don't think they'll be using the TV shows opening credits. especially if they're trying to update things, also I don't like the idea of not using a version of the actual theme.

Go for it. How about the guy who wrote the music for the Miami Vice tv series. Or The Who, they do all of the CSI intros.

And who might have done Miami Vice than?

Jan Hammer, for the orgional television series. The movie I don't know about. I still say John Williams could do one heck of a job.

Well, we all know that the powers to be are going use whatever they want, and whatever cause they deem necessary. Only thing we can do is guess. I would hope that they keep to the Randy Elderman theme as close as possible. They did for the Star Wars movies. I don't know what they did for the Stargate Movies.

If it's a little different it's not the same.

My guess is since most of the world knows the MacGyver theme they aren't going to mess with it. I don't know if Paramount of Randy Elderman have the properties to the song or not.

They sure didn't change the Star Wars movie themes. Just my thoughts.

Paramount (CBS) will own the copyright to that theme as well as the title graphic.

So if they can't get permission from paramount, they won't be able to use the theme or the title graphic.

That would kind of take away from the feel straight away.

Star Wars was a continuation of the same movie story by the owner of the franchise. It wasn't turning a TV show into a movie by a different company, so not really the same thing.

I'm trying to think of TV shows which have been made into movies, only 2 I can think of are Starsky and Hutch and Brady bunch, and I haven't seen either of them, so don't know if they kept the opening titles from the TV show or not.

No I didn't see Starsky and Hutch, I did catch a glimpse of the Brady Bunch movie and it was to stupid to see. But the opening looked pretty much the same. The actors were stupid.

I know when they were making the Magnifican Seven which was a series of movies they kept the theme pretty much the same. I think they should just let the old tv series be unless they want to do a reunion movie for tv. Just my thoughts. I looked on You Tube for both the Miami Vice and the Starsky and Hutch opening theme to the movies and really couldn't find anything about them. I still think Henry Winkler and John Rich should have some say in the production of the movie.

I think they used the original theme from Bewitched when they made that into a movie. Let me look at YouTube and see what I can find. Couldn't find much on that either. Only thing I heard was Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.

I've seen Starsky and Hutch partly but didn't like it, though Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are great actors and I didn't even see the original show.

As far as I know a series made into a movie that was a success or scored well is apparently The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton and Liv Tyler. Haven't seen it though but it scores well. And also The Simpsons Movie scored very well. Though I have seen this one at the theaters, I had more the idea I was watching a very long episode instead of a movie. And they did keep the intro in the movie or made a movie version of it with the actual theme.

We seem to forget that Henry Winkler and John Rich produced MacGyver for Paramount. So how much of a controlling interest do they have, even if Lee David Zlotoff created the character?

I wonder how much CBS, Paramount, and Randy Elderman would be willing to pay to give up the rights to the music and the introduction?

Oh how I hope that CBS/Paramount won't be so stupid as say "no" to the movie producers regarding the theme and title graphics.

I hope that Lee David Zlotoff has a lot of input on this project, after all, he created Mac's character, and, on a similar note, Glen Larson's doing the Knight Rider movie (mind you, Universal knew that they couldn't get anyone else to do it.)

The thing with the Starsky and Hutch movie, was they tired to make it something it wasn't. I remember watching it as a serious police drama way back. The movie they made was more comedy then anything. And just plane stupid.
