Since the question of the movie has come up do you think that Bruce McGill and Michael Des Barres and Terri Hatcher are to old to play the characters of Murdoc, Jack and Penny? I know that Michael Des Barres turned sixty back in January.

My vote was YES But he CAN NOT be alone in the movie....
Also they could find other people to play as son or daughter of an importante
Vilan or co-worker....

OBS :

RDA has to be there , others are just a plus...
What Scenario would be cool to see???
I know there is WMD in this movie... and maybe some Rescue like the old days...
A Soldier left in Iraq ? or any Midle East Crap Hole ?
or maybe something whent wrong at AREA 51 and he Need to Capture some
Top secret material from some Terrorist ?

Questions ???? hmm.bmp

But Lets go back to the Topic !

I really like the way you think. I was just thinking wouldn't it be funny if it were a romantic thing like between Mac's son Sam and Penny Parker's daughter? harhar.gif

I voted yes.

Do explain that. The others might be too old but RDA's not because he is MacGyver?

Far from. If you think RDA can/should return as Mac even if he is 59 than Murdoc, Jack and Penny can/should come back too no matter how old they are or else it's still not the same.

I think Murdoc can still be as dangerous as ever. It's not because you have gray hair (that's why we have hairpaint) or a few rinkles more (that's why we have creames), you're not dangerous. Have a look at Zito. W. Morgan Sheppard is in his 70's, his most recent film I know is The Prestige, the guy can still be freaky.

Bruce McGill's latest film was Vantage Point without mustache, me thinks, but no doubt he can still play the pilot.

Teri Hatcher is far from too old. For a woman in her forties she still is as beautiful as ever. And probably arrogant as ever but she can still play Penny Parker.

This not meaning the characters couldn't have changed over the years. That's why it's important to maintain the old ways. Jack can still be irresponsible, lying and still have the undesirable hungry to get rich quick but time and age catches up on everyone. Jack could've become smarter and not get involved with the wrong characters. But more like a guy being on the wrong place at the wrong time.

Penny Parker was played better in her first three episodes than in Secret of Parker House and Cleo Rocks. In Everytime She Smiles and Soft Touch she at least had to guts to open her mouth a bit or to run in case of danger in Secret of Parker House and Cleo Rocks she overacted and was freaked or traumatized with the least that happened. No wonder MacGyver started to ask questions.

Again even if your older and can't run anymore, doesn't matter. It's the way things are. Look at Harrison Ford or Sly. They're around the age of Rick but they can still run (maybe not as long as they used to) and swap punches so why not RDA as well?

I voted no, but I don't think Penny Parker would work now, Terri would not play her and I'm unsure as to how the character would have evolved I just think it would be differcult to write her in. Jack and Murdoc heck yes!

The only way Terri would work Penny if they changed the char all together, but I don't think they would do that.

I don't think the actors are too old necessarily, but the characters would have to evolve to reflect their age. It's just like how Indy changed in KOTCS. Sure, he was still Indy at heart, but we started to see shades of his father coming through, and he was clearly an older Indy than he was in the previous movies. A bit less wreckless, a bit grumpier, etc.

Penny couldn't be the total ditz that she was. I was once thinking of a possible fan-fic story in which MacGyver (now about 60), comes to NYC to see Penny, who finally got a small part on Broadway. I won't go into the ins and outs of the plot, but in the story, Penny had a daughter, and motherhood forced Penny to mature somewhat, much to Mac's surprise.

Jack would also have to be different if Bruce McGill played him. It would look silly to have someone McGill's age playing Jack the way he was twentyfive years ago. People change with time.

And Murdoc? Yeah, I think Michael Des Barres could still play him. I've seen him in several sitcoms over the years, and he still has the comedic timing needed.

Realistically, though, I doubt we'll be seeing any of these characters or actors.

Your right people do change with time and if the ydo put Penny in the movie I'm hoping she becomes more mature then she was in the tv show.

I have such a bad hunch that the movie is going to feel very disconnected from the TV series. Mac will be there, of course, but probably played by a different actor. The filming style will probably try too hard to be current (I'm thinking lots of quick edits, and plenty of stylistic shots that won't gel with the TV show's style), and the supporting cast will be entirely different from what was in the TV show. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Phoenix Foundation wasn't part of the movie. Look at the two tv movies and how disconnected they felt, and those were made very soon after the series ended. It's now 20 something years later... I'm betting this will be a total re-imagining, more intent on being "cool" and trendy, but lacking the heart of the show.
Call me cynical, but that's just how I see it playing out. sad.gif

An advice and something Superman Returns director Bryan Singer said: When making a sequel after so many years of a great franchise, the best way to do it is treating it's original idea with a deep respect.

Best example of that is that he kept the original opening credits of Superman The Movie from 1976. Boy was I blown away by that and surprised the theme was made by John Williams.

Thank you for saying that. John Williams is a heck of a composur. Look at all the big time movie themes he did. He would keep the orgional the way it should be, and jazz it up where it needed to be. happy_dance.gif

The more I think about it, the more foolish it would be for TPTB to NOT at least cast RDA as Mac. I mean, realistically, people who aren't already fans of the show are probably not going to care much about this movie no matter what TPTB decide to do. I was never a Dukes Of Hazard fan, for example, so I paid no attention to the movie. So that means the movie should really try to cater towards longtime fans of the show, and I've yet to hear one fan say they want a different actor in the lead role. If TPTB do decide to cast a new actor, they'll alienate old fans, and they most likely won't bring in any new ones, so it's a lose-lose situation for the studio.
On the other hand, if they do get RDA back as Mac, they've got a pretty sizable guaranteed audience. Certainly not as big as, say, an Indiana Jones movie, but still a respectable size (and, let's be realistic here, the budget for a MacGyver movie probably won't come close to the budget of an Indy film, so they don't NEED the audience to be as big. And I doubt RDA would get paid anywhere close to what Harrison gets paid.)

Now, as for the rest of the cast... honestly, I don't really care too much. Yeah, it might be nice to see Jack or Murdoc or Penny, but the thing about MacGyver is that it really only had one main character-- Mac. There were entire seasons when we didn't see Jack or Penny, and yet the episodes were still good. Murdoc only turned up once a year (except in season 5 when we saw him twice), so again, he's not essential by any means. The show was constantly introducing new sidekicks and villains, so I have no problem with the movie doing the same thing.
The main thing is that they get RDA, and they get a good plot with some good supporting characters, even if those characters aren't people that we've ever seen before in the tv show.

Wow, that ended up being a longer post than I had intended to write!

i think all of us would rather see RDA play MacGyver, I just can't see no one lese play that char but if they do cast someone who can play the char then I'm up for it, the rest of the chars of the show do mean alot, we all grew up with them no matter how they were.
But the Dukes of Hazzard movie just well, all the fans of that show can tell Hollywood took that tv show in another way then what the fans remember, i just hope they don't do that to the MacGyver movie.

i have the same feeling look what happened with Duckes of Hazzard movie they messed that one up big time, with Bo loveing the General lee more then a woman and other things that just made the new comers to the old show belive thats how it was.

Yeah but you got to look at who they cast in that movie. I hope the MacGyver movie stays true to his nature and that of RDA. ohmy.gif
