Chances are they will just want to make a 'define-the-character' movie, like the first Spiderman one. Not one where the viewer will have to know a ton of info and have experienced the character already.
So I'd estimate a movie in the lines of the 'blood brothers' episode, which implies they may not want to pick up where the series left off, but just deal with the classic MacGyver character, his classic dilemmas, the core, basic elements that define him and NO character development new to us fans who already know all that. It does make sense since if they don't address and define all of this first, a good part of the non-fandom audience will be .
Now if they hired a GOOD writer to take the fandom into serious consideration, they'd start with MacGyver at least where the series left off, and do lots of flashbacks. But it needs real skill for it not to turn into something boring or a 'memory lane' movie.

Than JJ Abrams is your man again. But I'm not sure if a MacGyver movie in style of a 'Lost' episode will be appreciated.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

And I better don't ask why, I think.
Don't worry perhaps Lost doesn't like you either.

I have the same problem with it, because Kirk isn't Kirk without Shatner, and I'm not even a Trekkie! Still, at least they were willing to stick with the original cast for awhile before attempting this current film version, and that's what I hope they do with MacGyver as well.
I don't hear anyone complain about the kid who played the young MacGyver in Blood brothers, or Phoenix Under Siege instead of RDA doing it.
How could RDA play a kid version of himself? That isn't a fair comparison of the case.

Yeah, I agree--that's totally different. Of course a kid would play him in a series of flashbacks, and that's fine, but when it comes to present-day Mac, it had better be RDA.

Well people are saying how bad the new Star Trek is because it uses a new cast and then saying they better use the original cast for the MacGyver movie. But the new ST movie is set way back in the past when the characters where young. Plus half the original cast is dead.
If the movie goes back into MacGyver's past, it will have to have a younger cast, because old people can't play young characters.
Yeah, but least they have a reason for the new cast with ST.
If the MacGyver movie continues in the shows current timeline (i.e. present day) and they just replace the cast with younger actors, that wont be good at all.
They need to have a good reason to replace actors, like staying in the same time frame as a show (the 80's), or going back in time.
Anyone know how the Miami Vice movie stacked up against the original TV show?
I saw it and I hated it. They got two people who are notoriously opposites of the characters they protrayed. It didn't even come close to the series at all. Neither one made an honest effort to act like Crockett or Tubbs. For them to do the same to MacGyver would totally kill not only the movie but the series as well. If they want to bash RDA for his age they need to look at some of the actors of his age. It also would be kind of like beating dead horse to do the movie based on MacGyver's childhood, they pretty well covered that area during the series. I also think that RDA may feel hurt by the prospect of someone else playing a character that he brought to the staus that it is today. Someone once said "Richard is MacGyver and MacGyver is Richard's inner strength and charm."

See that was what I was saying about how Hollywood destroys loved series. Before everyone tried to clobber me.
RDA should play MacGyver, as MacGyver in the age RDA is in! That would be neat! I'd love to see what MacGyver does best. Given that it's a guarantee that trouble won't stop following him around because his hair's gray, it would be great to see the 'brain over brawn/youth/brute force' conquer even more.
Unfortunately Hollywood rarely cares about what fans truly wish for. Just look at what they did to Lord of the Rings! True, dedicated fans have major issues with at least Return of the King. At least author/writers who are dedicated fans do.
(Oh, and LOST definitely does not like me back. It loses me every time I try to watch an episode. )
Anyone liked the Incredibles? That is a good approach to characters juxtaposing their younger/older selves without bashing or ridiculing either.

I still say they should start the movie with Pete's funeral and what he actually died from (pneumonia). Then have the Phoenix Foundation offer Mac Pete's job. Mac decides to go ahead takes, the job. Finds out that Sam, Jack, Penny, and Nikki have been taken hostage by Murdoc. Instead of having some gun-ho agent who doesn't know what Murdoc is capable of; Mac goes after him and the HIT organization. Mac being Mac uses his tools of the trade to free the hostages. Mac offers Sam his old job. Jack a job flying rescue missions. And as for Penny and Nikki they can do something else. That would leave room for more movies going forward, not back word. Just my thoughts.
I don't know. They lost me a long time ago. I don't see why they don't end the series and move onto something else. Seems like the whole thing is one long dull episode.

Maybe because it's the best show on TV? At least it's certainly my favorite (I don't except phone calls while Lost is on. I always tell my girlfriend, "Remember, you can't call me between 9 and 10 on Wednesday!")
Anyway, there's just one more season to go. Then it's done.
I prefer a little Law and Order on my Wednesdays. Lost has never made any since to me, and that is my opinion. Although I like the earlier version of L&O compared to the newer series. Its been on a whole lot longer.

Because it's not finished yet.

That's like the whole idea of Lost, that it doesn't make any sense. Time to solve the riddle and they have two seasons to do it. Besides it's not easy to cover one major storyline into six seasons and keep it interesting for everyone. Things have bugged me too on Lost, like the constant change in John Locke's character, if he's a bad guy or not. But they managed to recover themselves well.

Has it won a Emmy?
You don't have to win anything to be good, you know.
But this Lost-talk is way off topic.

That's Murdoc and I don't know if I was supposed to know that already.
