Another MacGyver


A tall strawberry blonde walks up to the Phoenix Foundation building.
“ Well this is the place alright” she murmurs to herself. She is just about to reach for the door handle when a dark haired woman brushes past her .
“Out of my way, I am in a hurry” the dark haired woman says.
“Well excuse me” the blonde replies back. She watches the dark haired woman quickly entering the lobby and notices that she is fashionably dressed.
“ Ok, I better get this over with before I change my mind and go back home.” She opens the door and starts heading towards the information desk. Before she gets there ,the elevator doors open and out steps another well dressed dark haired woman carrying a clipboard.
“ All applicants please follow me”
“ Why not “ the blonde thinks to herself “ I ‘m going to need a job anyway if I stay here. And if I do manage to get the job I can search better with all the resources this place has to offer.”
“Please have a seat. My name is Nikki Carpenter and I am filling in for Marjorie Simpleton today. Have your resumes ready! I will collect them as I pass out the application forms for you to fill out while waiting to be interviewed. You will have 20 minutes to complete this task. . Afterwards, you will be divided up into three groups.
Group one will be interviewed, group two will be fingerprinted and group three will be given a written test. Any questions so far? No? Good! Ok as you can see on the application there is a color square at the top of the page with a number in it. For those who are color blind just use the number. Red group one go through the door on your right, Yellow group two, the door to your left. And Blue group three just stay seated someone will be with you shortly. The lights above the doors will go on when the 20 minutes are up. Good luck.”

“Next” Nikki yelled. “Why did I volunteer to do the fingerprinting?”
“ Last name first.”
“MacGyver, A.J. “
“MacGyver?” Nikki said in surprised as she looked up. In front of her stood an athletic looking blonde with brown eyes. But instead of male it was a female.
“MacGyver , that is an unusual name?”
“Yes it was my Step-father‘s last name.”
“ What does A.J. stand for?”
“ I’d rather not say just yet.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes if, I mean when I am hired then and only then will I disclose that information”
“ And why is that may I ask?”
“ Well I had enough pity and snickering to last a lifetime. So I would rather keep that information to myself unless it is necessary to give it out.”
“ Just out of curiosity , do you have any relatives around here?”
“ No none that I know of around here. I thought this was the fingerprinting part and not the interview .
“Yes of course . Let’s start with your right hand please.”
The process was slow going for A.J. , but at least the written test was fairly easy.
“Two down and one to go “ A.J. said to herself as she sat down to wait to be called for her interview. She settled down in a chair in the corner so she could watch what was left of her group. It had shrunk some what. A.J. is amused that she herself is still in the running for job she didn’t know even existed 90 minutes ago. She looked around hoping that the dark haired woman was one of those who dropped out.
“Well it looks like the “she bear” is still among us.” A.J. thought as she saw her near the door. Then there was a loud crash and lots of noise. A.J. kept looking in her direction and noticed the dark haired woman looking around before slipping out the door.
A.J. couldn’t resist following her to see just what this woman was up to. She looks around and then slips out unnoticed or so she thought. Nikki was coming around the corner only saw A.J. slipping out .
“ Just what are you up to you MacGyver want- to- be? If that is your real name!.”
A.J. saw the dark haired woman open a door marked ”Records Dept. Restricted Personal Only.”
“ Ok Missy just what are you up to? Let’s go and find out.”
Nikki comes around the corner just to see A.J. opening the records dept. door. As she is going by an office door opens .”Call security and let them know to focus on the monitor in the records department. And hurry!”
The dark haired woman sits down at a computer terminal and starts typing.
“ I am in! This was as easy as you said it would be. Okay here I go Monroe, Andria, age 25 five, Parents; Let’s make them rich and important. Oh yeah dead , that part is true. Education: Graduate of the school of hard knocks. Ok okay don’t get your knickers in a twist. I know this is serious. Oxford top of the class alright top 5 in her class. Back on track her my girl. Let’s see I earned a duel major in Physics and Chemistry with a minor in computers. Extra curricular activities blah, blah, blah . After this lovely description I could just puke. Oh well I can be such a goodie two shoes sometimes…….. Not!! Laughing to herself. So when she had laughter behind her she jumped out of her seat.
“ You can say that again.” Andria turns around and looks at A.J.. Just who the **** are you? And what are you doing in here ? This is a restricted area, employees only.” Andria walks a little closer.
“ Well I can say the same to you.” A.J. answers. “ Fixing your file so you have a better chance of getting the job, Clever.”
“Unfortunately not clever enough .” Both women jumped not expecting anyone else to be in the room.
Andria thinks quick and tries to take A.J. as a hostage. A.J. is ready for her and turns on her. Andria pulls out her knife when it is obvious the A.J. isn’t the nerdy pushover she first thinks. She lunges towards A.J. and stabs her on the forearm as A.J. raises her arm to protect herself.
A.J. recovers enough to push Andria up against the wall. In the struggle A.J. forces her to drop the knife. With an unexpected blow Andria, knocks A.J. off balance.
Nikki comes up from behind and throws in a few punches before Andria sucker punches her. Andria runs out the door and gets pass the agents coming down the hallway.
“Are you alright?”
“Ouch that “she- bear” stabbed me! Where was she hiding it?”
Nikki chuckled and said” You better get that looked at right away. Where did you learn to fight like that?”
A.J. laughed and replied” Well I am from Alaska where the men do out number the women. And some of them don’t like no for an answer if you get my drift.”
A.J. leans up against the wall and slides down to the floor.
“Is work always this much fun around here. If you don’t mind I’m going to sit down and rest for a while.”
Nikki grins and thinks to herself ”You must be related to Mac . You are just like him.”

“What the HK happened there? You said you were in”
“I was stopped before I could finish.”
“By Whom? Nikki?”
“No another applicant, but Nikki Carpenter did show up.”
“Well I suggest you find out who that other applicant is and why she followed you.”
“Oh I will Murdoc!. You can count on that.”
“You better my dear because H.I.T. does not like failures. I should know. Remember they hand picked you for me to train in my ways not in my mistakes.” Murdoc turn and leaves the room . After closing the door he leans up against the door .
“MacGyver, you may think you have retired but I will find you and remove the only blemish on my record before I die!”
