well I do not know much about this new Movie and I don't know if would be
a Good Idea for MacGyver to use a Swiss tool .

Just because NOW DAYS or present Time it would be a better choice as far
use of Pliers to scape from diferent Scenarios...

I think the red SAK is one of the major (if not THE major) icons of MacGyver.

Hell in some parts of the world they are referred to as MacGyver Knives.

My honest opinion is that if they are planning on not using SAKs, they might as well stop the film now... or rename it to something else.

He's probably going to say something like:

I remember watching the creater say he liked the multi purpose tool due to the pliers but I've seen SAK's with those as well so the knife will always work. Never change it.

And to be honest, how often did MacGyver ever need to use a pair of pliers?

In fact the only time I can think of where I would need pliers would be (maybe) if something went wrong on my bicycle while I was out riding.

Disregarding one of the shows biggest icons for such an insignificant reason really doesn't sit well with me, and certainly doesn't raise my expectations for the movie.

Of coarse this is all speculation, because Lee Zlotoff never actually said he would swap the SAK for a Leatherman and we don't know if the other producers would let him.

When i think of MacGyver i think of his SAK red, just like with Indy with his whip.

Why even make a movie if all they are going to do is change how the character acts and looks? They need to have all of the orgional cast and crew. I hope they can even find a jeep, nomad, or the 1940's truck.

I agree, i was looking on the net and found a jeep just like his in Indiana, same model wise and same color.

Well I collect SAK for lonnnnnng time and I know RED is Vic's Trade Mark
As the Cross or Swiss Shield...

But IF you look on the Line up you see OTHER TYPES : Alox , Black and other
colors ,Even Pink.

What I was trying to say is that " BACK in the Day" most of the knives
( Victorinox ) had the RED as MAIN color ( and still )

BTW the Original SOLDIER model Had many changes over the last 100 + Years
From Black wood ( 1891 ) to Red Fiber, to Alox untill 2008 and NOW are VERY
diferent look; But still " The soldiers knife "

I agree with you on that. I remember getting nervous when he said it but ONE: How often would he nned pliers and B: He's MacGyver! If he needed them and didn't have them he'd use something else!

I think as long as MacGyver is who as RDA played the character. Equipment and technology should improve. I mean most computers are outdated by the time you get them out of the store. Look at how far our techonology has come. That doesn't mean the old stuff doesn't work, but should be incorporated with the new.

Here is the picture I wanted to show of my black SKA. But M. Tex is right we all grow and change, and it would be an insult to RDA and the character of MacGyver if the equipment didn't change just as technology changes.

That's why I got this Thread.... BTW I think at some point, someone in the Movie
will ask him about this and he will say :

As we see on the First ( pilot ) when some guy ask him about His Bag....

I don't agree that, what is probably THE most recognizable icon of the show, can be replaced with an argument that "technology changes"

Swiss army knives haven't changed. They are still widely sold around the world. Also technology changed over the seven years of the show, but MacGyver still carried his SAK because technology has nothing to do with pocket knives. So I really can't see how technology changes would, or could, justify MacGyver not having a SAK.

Exactly I agree, SAK's haven't changed, even RDA stated its the only thing he kept from the show (a few years ago) I think he now has the vic multi tool thing, because he's motorbiking more now.

Then why make an updated verison of MacGyver? why not just put pieces of the show together and call it a movie? Why can't he carry the red SAK and the swiss tool?

Yes , the basic idea of the Show was HIM / and a RED Swiss knife.
But let me tell you this.... ( has nothing to do with the movie )


I EDC all the time 2 pocket knives. Mini Champ and a Pioneer.
and some days I even have on me ( my back pocket or belt ) a swiss tool.

I guess if someone wants to put up with a bunch of tools it is possible.
But that's me. Most of the time I have just the 2 above.

You ask why a mini Champ ? well it is small and has lots of tools that can be used
in many situations...And I save me ALOX PIONEER to do the heavy work....

But J.....I need Pliers !!!! well a swiss tool is the solution...
Small pliers in other knives DON'T do the work.

My hubby's new red SAK came today. It's the Vitronox (sorry about the spelling) Huntsman Plus Knife. I told him I would give him the black one back and take the red one. Now he's hidden the red one from me. LOL

I thought MacGyver and RDA were the most reconizable feature of the show.

I think Mac, Jack, or Sam could find the Swiss tool very helpful, especially Jack Dalton when he is working on his air planes. Especially if they are Fly By Night or Dalton Air. We all know what kind of trouble Jack can get into. But I don't really see why Mac couldn't carry both. Just my thoughts. Found at this website.

I really don't see where the Swiss tool is any bigger then the SAK. I know SAK comes in a varity of sizes. I would think if Sam were anything like Mac he would carry both. I mean they do have a pocket that attaches to the belt in the two pictures I found.

i would rather see MacGyver carry a red one instead of a silver one, it just doesn't seem right to have any other color for him.
