Just saw The Wasteland. In the scene where Mac save Willis from 'being consumed by your work' he uses a cable line. Mac takes out a lot of cable to provide enough slack to get to Willis. At some point he pushes a button so the thing continues to provide him cable. So the whole roll of cable rolls forward. When Mac runs to Willis you can see him attaching the hook to his belt. The idea was Mac grabs Willis while being pulled back to get out of the suction. This was clear when you see the cable going back up but when the men are back at the car the roll of cable is still rolling forwards while it should be backwards if it means taking the cable back, right?

I think the button he pushed was so that it would start sucking the cable back in. So by the time he got to the guy it was already close to pulling them out. I never payed attention to which way the spool was spinning though

The way the spool spills is wrong. When they come back it's like the spool is still providing cable instead of rolling back up.

if you watch really closely you can see the rope moving into the spool and winding on.

I think it's a classic spinning optical illusion used by magicians to confuse people as to which way something is turning.

In this case the illusion is created because you have the spool moving one way and then you have the spiral effect of the rope on the spool appearing to move sideways. It confuses your brain. You have to focus on only one motion and block out the others to see whats really happening.

How is the road in the wasteland so brightly lit up at night when there are no street lamps there?

Even when they are in the ditch with fire going after the van blows up the area immediately around them is really brightly light while the everywhere else around them is black.

I think there is a moon and I think spots were used. MacGyver is shot on location so yeah, you need spots to shoot during the night where there is no light.

It was ridiculous lighting. They were meant to be out in a pitch dark wasteland but the whole road and any other area they were standing in was light up like day. IT looked stupid.

I don't the know the sky looked pitch black to me. The ground... you have to do it with the stuff you got available.

The audiences is probably hard to see whats happening if they wouldn't have used any spot lights and also without those lights, it would have been hard to film, but if they would have used lame spot light and added some smoke to there, then it would have looked little bit better, but the smoke fits better actually to dark forest than maybe to open field

Also if they would have placed blue lights to background area behind trees and those dry bushes, surrounding the road and add smoke, then it wouldn't show only the road in lighted area
