Chapter 10

Andria looked at Sam while she was tying him up. She like the way his muscles felt under her fingers. She wondered what it would be like to be next to him , to be kissed by him.
As if to read her mind Murdoc told her through clenched teeth
“ Don’t go getting any romantic ideas about him. Remember he is the spawn of my enemy my dear.”
Andria turned around to face him.
“ Hey just because you don’t have a love life or any kind of life , doesn’t mean I can’t.”
“ Listen to me and listen to me good! Having any kind of feelings especially romantic feelings in this field of work can have deadly consequnces. Now……..” Murdoc had to stop because of a coughing fit “ Are you ready?” Again he had to stop because of more coughing. Murdoc held up his hand.
“ Do we, I mean, do you really have to go through this in this manner. It is the 21st century after all.They do have advanced medical treatments.”
“ Yes my dear they do but I have been in this business far to long.H.I.T. won’t let me retire unless I retire to my grave. As for MacGyver , though he is a formable opponent , well let’s just say if I go I am taking him with me. If it is the …… no correct that , it will be the last thing I do. Enough of this, come on we have work to do before the bomb goes off, which is in 2 ˝ hours.We need to be out of here by then. Remember all that I taught you.”
“ Andria turned back to Sam a tear ran down her cheek.
“ Murdoc have you ever broken your own rules? I mean did you let your feelings get in the way?”
Murdoc stopped by the door. His hand resting on the door knob.
“ Why do you ask? Never mind the answer is yes 3 separate times. My sister Ashton, Penny Parker and someone I thought loved me but instead betrayed me.”
“ Who was it?”
“ My partner at the time. A woman named Olivia. Enough of this kind of talk. We have work to do.”
Murdoc walked out and closed the door. He leaned against the wall .
“ You look so much like her too my dear.”

MacGyver is just coming to when Murdoc enters the room.
“ Well you look rested. Retirement must be agreeing with you. Did you enjoy retirement as short as it was ? Are you ready to get back to work yet MacGyver?”
“Where is Pete? What have you done with my son?”
“ I guess the answer is yes then. All will be revealed in due time MacGyver.”
“ Murdoc these games of yours have to end. I am sick and tired of your games and riddles. I refuse to be a player any more. I am tired of you involving innocent bystanders and people who are close to me just so you can have some perverse fun. This is it Murdoc, today it ends. One of us isn’t…”
“ Going to make it out of here ….Alive!!!!. Yes I agree with you on that. And because you are all tied up it looks like you are that one. Oh cheer up MacGyver at least you won’t be going alone. Pete and your son oh yes I almost forgot your newest family member, will be going with you.”
“ I said no more riddles Murdoc. What are you talking about the newest family member?”
“ Oh I am sorry I forgot you don’t know about the latest MacGyver. Where are my manners? Maybe you would like to meet her or would you rather wait until the after life?”
Andria comes rushing in “Murdoc They…….”
MacGyver I would like you to meet my new partner/student complaiments of H.I.T.. Appears they think I need help, because I can’t seem to get rid of you myself.”
“ Murdoc I need to speak to you out in the hallway now!”
“ Will you excuse us?”
After the door slams shut Murdoc turns towards Andria.
“ What is so bloody important it couldn’t wait?”
“ Gee I thought you might want to know that blondie and baldy are missing!”
“ How did you let that happen?”
“ How did I let it happen? That is rich coming from you. May I remind you that blondie is very clever! Any way I am going to check on Jr..”
“ I bet you are. Look we aren’t going to wait . We are getting out of here now.”
“ Aren’ we even going to stay and watch him die? That is your problem Murdoc you don’t wait for the finish.That is why MacGyver has gotten away from you all these years. You are so like the typical bad guys who think they have it all under control. Then oops the good guy escapes and save the day once again. If the bad guys don’t get killed they are thrown in jail.”
“ First of all! I don’t want to be here right now. I want to be away from here when the bomb goes off. Second , this place will be crawling with Pheonix Foundation Agents any minute now. Oh yes they always seem to have dumb luck when it comes to figuring out where their agents are stashed. Lastly my dear I have a fool proof plan this time. You see MacGyver is in there chained to a table, chained not tied. There are no ropes to cut himself free. Beside the metal table, the chains and MacGyver there really isn’t any thing close to him.”
Murdoc paused and then started laughing.
“ Oh I guess I wasn’t being truthful about that. You see I planted a bomb under the table. The legs are connected to a spring loaded mechanism. So if by some more dumb luck someone does help him out ……….. Let’s just say there will be two going to pieces. I am getting out of here after I set the big bomb. I suggest you do the same.”
Andria turns to go.
“ Andria remember don’t let your feelings get in the way. You see typically when bad girls do that that they tend to get betrayed then set to jail or die because of their feelings for the so called good guy.”
Both Murdoc and Andria turn and leave in opposite directions. Niether one see the two people lurking just around the corner.
“ Mr. Thornton I am sorry Pete.You stay here and I will follow that she bear and get …….Sam is it.”
“ How do you know that she will lead you to him?”
“ You heard Murdoc warning her about feelings? Something tells me she has fallen for this Sam. My guess is that she will check on him one last time before she leaves. Please stay here, I won’t be long. When I come back with him we will get MacGyver off the table without blowing anyone else up.”
“ AJ please be careful . You don’t know Murdoc like we do. He will set traps everywhere and anywhere.”
Pete stood still for a while and then got to thinking.
“ Mac has gotten me out of many of jams. It is time for me to return the favor. Truth be known I don’t know how we managed to do it. Just like now we will prevail here as well.”
Just then Pete heard the rattle of the chains.MacGyver was struggling against his restraints. Pete followed the sounds to a door and turned the handle and went in.
“ Mac are you in here?”
“ Pete is that you ? You are alright thank God for that.”
“ Well Mac what have you gotten yourself into this time.? Here we are working hard to find you and here I find you just laying around.”
“ Well I am retired don’t ya know. This is ironic. I came here to rescue you and here you are to do the same for me. How about helping me get off this table Pete ?”
“ It won’t be easy Mac.”
“ When it comes to Murdoc it never is easy. But I am sure we can pick the locks. You must have a paper clip or something like that.”
“ No MacGyver the cuffs are the least of your problems. The table legs are on spring activated triggers. So even if we find something to get you out of the cuffs, getting you off the table might be a problem for us both.”
“ Ok Pete one problem at a time. First let’s find something to unlock these cuffs. Then we will see about getting me off this table without anyone of us going to pieces.”
Mac looks around for something to use. He spots his SAK across the room on the floor.
“ Pete ,Murdoc must have thrown my knife across the room. I see it on the floor. Have Sam get it . Wait where is Sam ? Why isn’t he with you?”
“ I don’t know where Mudoc has Sam. I heard you rattling the chains after AJ went to follow Andria. AJ seems to think she will lead her to where Sam is.”
“ Who is AJ? I s he a new Phoenix agent?”
Pete laughed.
“ I forgot you don’t know. AJ is a she! And her last name is proably why she is here. Mac her last name is MacGyver. She isn’t agent at least not yet. From what I have heard and seen , she would make a good one if she accepts the job. She even has a dislike of her first name. She won’t say what it is unless she has to for the job. Sound familiar?”
Ok Pete you made your point . Go alittle more to your right … that’s it …..now go straight … right in front of you.”
“ Ah Got it! You know Mac , AJ is a lot like you. Besides the name thing, she is good at thinking fast on her feet. She can handle herself in a time of trouble . And her sense of humor is remarkable like yours. Then there is that love of the outdoors. Her mother was a Park Ranger up in Alaska.”
“ Alaska huh? It doesn’t ring a bell. No one mentioned any relatives there. I mean the only one I knew that spent any amount time there was Harry. Mom might have mentioned relatives of Dad’s but I don’t think it was in Alaska.
MacGyver had been working on the cuffs while they were talking.
“ Ok Pete ! I am loose, Now problem number 2, getting off this table.”
“ Well we were worried about you and here you are lying around.”
“ Hello Nikki nice to see you too. How’d you find us?”
“ Just be thankful that Jack’s new friend---correction-- new partner, likes to play spy. So how can I help? So what have you gotten yourself into this time?”

AJ was quietly moving along behind Andria.
“ Gee haven’t we been through this before. Whoa what do we have here?”
Andria opened the door expecting to find Sam still tied up. Instead she found that spot empty. Where could he be hiding? She is walking around the room when Sam comes at her from the right.
“ Now tell me where you are keeping my Dad ? No games!!!”
“ Like I would tell you! Look this place is going to blow in less than an hour. Come with me. We can get out of here , go somewhere they can’t find us. I t would be just you and I.”
“What about my Dad? Do you really think I would leave without him?”
“ Forget him, Murdoc has him strapped on a table rigged to blow if he manages to get off. So he is good as dead.”
“ Forget him?? You want me just to forget him? Are you nuts or what. Just because you appear to have a heart of stone doesn’t mean I do or ever will. No you want to run ….. Then you run. As for me, I am going to save my Dad and Mr. Thornton. And if that means I will die with them so be it! Now get out of my way b***h.” Sam starts out the door when he hears a click behind him.
“ What did you call me? So you would rather die than to be with me? That can be arranged.”
“Not today you she bear, not if I have anything to do with it.”
AJ says as she slams up against Andria. As she knocks the gun out of Andria’s hand , AJ also manages to knock her out as well.
“ Thank you whoever you are! You are an Angel.”
“ Oh man not another one.”
“ What?”
“ Nothing. My name is AJ . What is your name?”
“ I am Sam. Now that the introductions are done we need to go find my Dad.That crazy lady and her friend have him somewhere in this building.”
“ Is Peter Thornton your Dad?”
“ No his name is MacGyver. He is tied to a table that will blow up if he gets off. So can we get going please?”
“ Ok Pete and I were down this hall a ways when we heard those two talking about a “MacGyver” . I will show you where. But first we have to take care of………. Aw man that she bear escaped. Look, Sam? You go find your Dad and I will go after her.”
Sam didn’t waste any time. He started running down the long hallway stopping briefly to check rooms. He was turning around a corner when…………… KA BOOM!!!!!.
