Chapter 11

“ Dad ! Oh God no! please no., not my Dad. I haven’t spent enough time with him. Dad ? Dad are you in there ? Dad answer me please.”
“ What was the question again?”
“ Dad , Are you alright?”
“Except for a headache and ears ringing . I am in one piece so yeah I ‘m alright”
“ So Dad , how did you get off the table in one piece?”
“ That is a story for another time and place. We need to get out of here pronto.”
Nikki came up from behind them with Pete. She looked around and saw only Sam.
“ Sam did you see AJ? Do you know where she is? We have to find her.”
“ Murdocs’s Partner jumped us and she , AJ that is, knock her out. Well so we thought. Anyway AJ went chasing after The “ She bear “ as she likes to call her.”
“ Yes that sounds like AJ.” Nikki said with a smile.
“ Mac, you and Sam stay here with Pete. I am going after AJ and the she bear.”
“ No I am going with you. I owe AJ for saving my life. It will take two of us to help.”
“ You heard the lady Pete. Let’s get you out of here.”
They were almost to the entrance when Pete heard a click. Without thinking of his own safety, Pete pushed MacGyver out of the way. There two explosions back to back.
“ Pete are you ok ? Pete answer me.”
“ Mac save yourself . There isn’t time . The wall behind us looks like it is coming down any second.”
“ No I am not leaving you here like this.”
“ Mac listen to me . You have to think about Sam , Nikki and now AJ.”
“ What about you Pete? You have the Phoenix Foundation and Michael. Come on Pete you think of Michael you two were just starting to get real close.”
“ Watch out for Micheal for me Mac. It has been a pleasure working with you. It has been an honor to call you friend.” With that Pete closed his eyes and took his last breath. Time stop for MacGyver . The tears started to fall.
“Pete my dear friend, it’s been an honor for me as well. You will be sorely missed. My life will never be the same.”
MacGyver hugged his friend tight. He took a deep breath and got up.
“ I will not leave you here my dear friend. You deserve more than to be left here.”
MacGyver took another deep breath and started to pull Pete’s body through the falling debrie . He was a man with a mission and nothing was going to stop him. MacGyver was not going to let his best friend remain encased in a tomb of Murdoc's creation.
“ Murdoc you will not get away with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it is the last thing I do. Believe me , you will pay for this!!!”

Andria had gotten to the car when she heard the first explosion. She looked around to see if Murdoc was around. She pressed the button in her ear
“ Murdoc come in. ……… Are you there? ….. Answer me d**** it. Your plan worked. Maybe not as you planned . As far as I can see everyone was inside when the bomb went off. … Murdoc did you copy that?”
“ Are you sure about that my dear? MacGyver and his gang of do gooders have some how managed to escaped from my traps before. Remember that is why you were sent here.”
Andria looked around and saw Phoenix Foundation and police cars coming down the road.
“ Murdoc where are you? We have to leave. This place is going to be crawling with agents.”
“ I am in the trunk of the car. I got out of there just as Nikki Carpenter and her gang of interfering agents arrived. So I hid in the first place I got to.”
“ Ok I will get us out of here. Wait a minute blondie is just coming out . I have a score to settle with her.”
“ No Andria, You can settle that score later.”
In the rear view window Andia spots AJ , then Sam . She starts to drive away when she stops to get one more look at Sam. What she sees is Sam hugging AJ. Her mind kicks into over drive and she believes she sees them kiss and then laugh at her. Something in Andria snaps.
“ First you stop me infiltrating the Pheonix Foundation. Then you brainwash Sam somehow, stopping him from running away with me. Now you are taking the man I love away from me. You will pay for this… dearly!!!!!”
Andria turns the car around and heads for Sam and AJ. If they want to be together it will be forever and 6 feet under.
“ Andria what are you doing?”
“Finishing some unfinished business.”
AJ and Sam look up to see a car racing towards them.
“ Sam look out!”
AJ pushes Sam out of the path of the car. Nikki is coming out of the door just in time to see AJ flying up over the car. Both of them go racing over to AJ. Andria takes off as agent start shooting at the back of the car in three directions.
Everyone ducks as more explosions go off.
“ Sam stay here with AJ. I am going to look for your Dad and Pete.”
“ Have one of your agents stay here with her. I am going with you.”
“ Does everyone have to argue with me today? No you stay put. If something happens to you , your Dad witll never forgive me.”
“ What makes you think that I will forgive you if something happens to my Dad?”
“ Ok you win this round. Jeff come over here. I want you to stay with her until the ambulance comes. Tell them to stand by we might have more for them to transfer to the hospital. Sam they might have made it to just inside the front door. Let’s go looked there first.”
Nikki and Sam made their way to the front of the building. No sign of Pete or MacGyver. They went inside very carefully.
“ Mac?……. Pete?……. Can you hear me? Where are you?”
“ Dad? …Mr. Thornton? Please answer!.”
“ Sam I am worried. I shouldn’t have left them alone. I should have known Murdoc would plant more than one bomb. What was I thinking.”
“ Nikki you were doing what was expected of you. Hey they were both walking when we left them. And AJ couldn’t have handled the she bear alone. Let’s keep looking.”
“ MacGyver …. Pete… Oh please God let them be alright.”
“ Over here Nikki”
“ Mac is that really you? Thank Goodness you are alive. What is wrong with Pete?”
MacGyver moved aside so Nikki could see.
“ He isn’t .. I mean he couldn’t be… Oh please tell me he is just unconsciencious?”
Mac Gyver stood there as Nikki tried to find the words that wouldn’t come. He knew no words were needed at this moment. He walked over and held out his arms . Without much thought Nikki let herself be wrapped up in his arms as the tears came for both.
Sam gave them a few moments before suggesting that they move Pete out of the building. They were just finishing up loading AJ into the abulance when the trio rounded the corner with Pete.
“Sam, someone should ride with AJ to the hospital. We should be fine here.There are agents all around and we are out of the building.”
Sam looked at his Dad with concern.
“ Go Sam . Look like Nikki said we will be fine. I don’t know AJ, but if she is so like me as I have been told . I think she will like to see a familiar face when she comes to in the hospital. I know I do.”
“Yeah you should know you spend enough time there. In fact I am surprised they don’t name a room or wing after you.” Nikki teased.
“ Go . I promise I will not let any more happen to your Dad. We will catch up to you later.”
Sam nodded and ran off to the ambulance. He got there just before they closed the doors.
MacGyver and Nikki turned to watch them leave. They were silent, lost in their own memories of the man they both admired and called friend. It was a while before either one spoke.
“ Oh Nikki it’s not going to be the same. So much of my life has change in these past 6 months. First meeting Sam, now losing Pete.”
Mac! I will help you get through this. Sam will too. And if my guess is correct so will AJ even if she is not related to you. You have many enemies around the world but please remember you have a lot more friends. Mac you and Pete connected because you both want peace and equality for everyone. You just had different methods to achieve it.”
“ Thanks Nikki. But what burns me right now is once again Murdoc escaped. That man will continue to haunt me until I die . Because apparently nothing I do will kill him.”
