Mac Drabbles (re-posts of lost works of Loth)I tried not to repost any drabbles that have already been reposted my kind folks! (thanks!!

) I don't mean to overwhelm anyone with this huge post. Just pick through and read as you like. Comment freely! It is sometimes fun to figure out which episode spawned or inspired each drabble!
And be sure to WRITE YOUR OWN and SHARE IT!!
EasyMy hand slipped, sending my homemade hang-glider into a spin. It just didn’t register that
that was
my blood spattered all over the struts. I didn’t realize yet that I had been shot.
Not until the second bullet smacked into my shoulder. That one I felt! My whole arm went limp and I was suddenly blind with pain. I was fighting to get the glider’s nose up… a tricky task with one hand, even when you’re not about to black-out from shock.
The next thing I knew, I was lying face-down in the river. What the heck happened to ‘easy’?
You Don’t Know Murdoc! The first time I ever faced this man, he tried to have me killed. What was it about that one incident that has set him with such determination to see me dead? After we escaped from the bazookas (sorry again about your cab, Jack old buddy) he seemed to forget about his games with Pete and the DXS, and turned his attention to little ol’ me… how is that fair?
And just what does a guy have to do to kill Murdoc? I’ve never really wanted his blood on my hands… but he
never gives up. And he
never dies!
AmbushMac looked up in surprise; he’s been so intent on freeing Penny that when Murdoc stepped out on to the verandah, he seemed to appear from out of nowhere.
Dressed in black, Murdoc wore a cold smile and a colt 45. He smoothly drew his gun and aimed from the hip.
The barrel of the gun looked big as a cannon. Mac wanted to run but there was nowhere to run to…
Something hit him hard in the chest, and then he was tumbling backward into the air. He heard Penny scream before the frost-coated earth rushed up at him.
Lucky ShotPete’s own heart nearly stopped as he ran up to the side of his friend, where he lay sprawled upon the ground. MacGyver had fallen from the balcony above the hotel, and he wasn’t moving. A thin string of smoke rose from an ugly hole over Mac’s heart, but no breath of life steamed from his lips. Beside him, Jack removed his hat and hung his head sadly.
Then suddenly Mac coughed and groaned aloud. Fumbling, he drew out of his shirt pocket a badly dented knife, the bullet-hole not quite defacing the small cross carved in the wooden handle.
Saxophone BlueHis life slipped away from me—just like that. He was a great man… a gentle man… a man of wonderful humor and intellect. He was trying to protect me. He always did put his students first.
He only ever wanted me to realize my potential… he said that he expected great things. Now, more potential and brilliance than I will ever possess has been snuffed out and forever silenced.
I reach down and closed his eyes with my fingers. The weight of his death crushes me, and I really don’t care who sees my tears. I can’t undo this.
Eagle ScoutI remember the day I got my first one. I had been working toward a badge, trying to tie a slip-knot, and wound up with the Gordian instead.
I ended up having to borrow a knife from Mrs. Fryfocle to cut my hapless friend out of the tangle. When I offered it back to her, she looked down her sharp nose, peering at me through her rhinestone-studded spectacles. “Hold on to it, Son,” she said, “I think you’re going to need it again. Best to always be prepared.”
Those words were good advice. I hope that I’ll remember them forever.
Too Much GravityWhat am I
doing up here?
What insane impulse possessed me to climb this mountain? Sure, it looked fun… and Mike had climbed it successfully before. Twice! She’s an expert. What could happen?
Why do I feel like a weigh a thousand pounds suddenly, and the ropes tying me to the earth seem as thin as fishing wire-- fragile and slippery in my sweating hands. The granite under my boots is as crumbly as old cheese. The wind mocks me.
Hold on to me, Mike. I’m going to fall…
“Don’t look down,” she repeats. That’s easy for her to say!
TouristI don't like to talk about my days in the military. It's not because I’m ashamed of what I did. I served my country and I was proud to do it. But I prefer the way I serve now... not just my country, or a president, or an organization like the Foundation... I serve people. Sometimes, it's people that I know-- friends. Sometimes I serve people that I've never met... people that I will never get to meet. That doesn't make them less deserving of help, if they need it.
That's why I just smile when someone calls me 'civilian'.
Ice ManCramped and twisted I lie here, crystals of ice falling into my eyes. I’d take a deep breath but something hurts inside, and I’m not sure how much air I’ve got down here.
I’ve never been so cold—and I’m from Minnesota… we INVENTED cold! Can’t keep my hands from shaking… can barely hold the ski pole as I try to drill upward. With some luck, I’ll be able to reach the surface and get some air… and some help.
I’m tired, but I don’t dare relax. I don’t want to wake up and find out that I’m a popsicle!
Close Encounters of the Clean Kind“That’s impossible.”
“Pete… I know what I saw.”
“There has to be some other explanation.”
“If there is then I don’t know it! I was standing right there… and the
thing was right over there… and I’m not crazy.”
“I never said that you were!”
“No, but you were
thinking it.”
“Well… you did get hit pretty hard on the head… maybe you hallucinated the whole thing?”
“Four other people saw it, too! And what about this…
thing?”
“It’s just a vacuum cleaner, Mac. It doesn’t mean anything.”
Mac shook his head. “I told Phil I wasn’t in the market…”
Cohler (formerly Leessa)I met her on assignment. Fell in love with a fighting spirit, her effortless, unadorned beauty. She was killed right before my eyes.
When I saw her walking—sparkling—through the lobby of that hotel, I felt that love once laid to rest had been resurrected in my heart.
I would have done anything she asked… and I did!
Can any love survive a second betrayal? I speak not of her trap or of her lies, but of her second death… holding her in my arms, I watched as life faded from her eyes.
People wonder
why I avoid commitment?
Defusing the SituationHow did I get into this line of work? A tangle of wire that looks like rainbow spaghetti and enough plastic explosive to blow this Minnesota boy halfway home… and a jury-rigged cooking timer that says I’m twenty seconds away from finding out if the guy who built this bomb is an amateur or a pro.
I’d rather be skiing. I’d rather be skating on a frozen lake back home. Red or Blue? Ten more seconds. They always make this part look so easy on TV…
A quick prayer and pick one. Blue’s always been a good color for me…
Early MourningIt’s cold out here.
Sitting on this dock, looking out over the young day setting over this placid lake, I work hard to not think. I want to draw the mist and fog off the water and fill up my head, so that there’s no room for thinking. I want to become this lake; sun shining off the calm surface, but underneath—freezing cold.
I can’t stop remembering that there’s no Mike in the world anymore. We were linked together by more than a rope. We were friends. We could have been more.
It’s cold out here…but I’m colder inside.
One Wrong StepThe air is crisp; the ground is cold and wet. I just rolled over a thorny bush but I don’t notice that discomfort so much as the steel jaws of a bear trap that has closed on my leg. Usually, a man doesn’t scream… he hollers. But that’s not what I did… I screamed. And I’ll go on screaming as long as it takes to make me feel better!
Okay, maybe I’ll stop now. The top of my head feels like it’s about to come off. I think I’ll just lie here for a while and swear under my breath.
Vision QuestDrums are beating in my ears… maybe it’s just my heartbeat. I thought that finding this old abandoned mine was a lucky thing, but as I fall to my knees and realize that I’m not getting up, I wonder if this place is destined to become my tomb.
Funny how rocks feel soft when you really don’t want to lie down. This would be as comfortable as my couch back home… if not for the burning pain in my belly.
A campfire flares before my eyes and a man appears. He’s wearing a feather… this is a dream, isn’t it?
Gypsy MagicShe was fiery in temperament-- red hair doesn’t lie-- with an aura of magnetism and strength about her, and not a little pure feminine power. She was used to being the center. Not many men could ignore or refuse her.
Maybe it was my lack of interest that attracted her; I was focused on the watch and my mission; she was used to being the focus. She must have found it refreshing to have to try.
What is it that makes women want to seduce me? I gotta change my cologne next time I go on a mission or something…
Red SweaterThere’s nothing sweeter than an unspoiled slope… seasoned pack under a fair layer of fresh powder! Any serious skier that you ask will agree. The only thing that can make it better is a pair of fresh waxed skis and having the run all to your self!
Red-Eye isn’t all mine today nor is it unspoiled, but the hour is right and it’s not too crowded now, and it’s a steep enough slope to keep most of the beginners out from underfoot.
The mountain is perched on my shoulders as I push off for the last run of the day.
RiverThere’s something about this River—that’s river with a big “R”, mister!—The Amazon; everything is alive… and half of everything is deadly. It’s an adventure just sitting back on the boat and watching the shores slip past.
Charlie is just too high-strung. The man’s focus has been things with wings, or the pages of his sketch book, for so long sometimes I wonder if he even notices anything else. A brilliant scientist, but he’s missing part of the picture; life is happening all around him, and he doesn’t see.
I like it here.
Anything could happen… at
any moment!
The RecitalThe boy edged out onto the small stage, carrying a guitar that seemed nearly as tall as he was. He was not a slight child, but when he nervously took his seat, he held the instrument as if keeping a shield between himself and the critical eyes of the judges.
Ellen met the boy’s eyes as he glanced desperately in her direction, frozen with stage-fright. She smiled at her son and her lips formed words, soundless and sweet.
The boy smiled at her. Taking the neck of the guitar in his long-fingered hands, he played only for her that day.
StarkossWhen his hand closed on my arm I tried to pull back, but several things held me unmoving. His grip was firm but warm, not cold as I expected. His eyes were indeed mesmerizing; gentle and knowing with a confidence unshakeable by doubt. And his words— he spoke words that I had never heard with my ears, only with my heart.
I’ve seen Jack pull too many rabbits out of a hat to believe in magic. But this trick leaves me wondering… the skin on my arm tingles where he touched me, though many years have passed since we parted.
Wit’s EndTwo things that my grandfather gave me when I was a kid have made me what I am today: a chemistry set and a subscription to ‘Popular Mechanics’ magazine.
I learned what things are made of, how they work, and what makes them work together. I think that’s the reason that I can usually figure out how to put together things that don’t normally work together to get myself out of trouble.
However, there is a limit to what you can do with duct tape, a book of matches, and a Swiss army knife!
Sometimes things just can’t be fixed…
Mac’s MenuA lot of folks think I’m a vegetarian. I guess I can’t blame them… especially if they look inside my shopping cart when I go to the market. I do lean toward bean curd and tofu… and I love a good baked squash!
They’d change their minds if they ever caught me out in the woods. Sure, there’s lots of edible roots, leaves, berries, nuts and such to be found, if you have the time to forage. When I do… I do, but when I don’t… that’s what snares are for!
Sometimes it’s easier to let lunch come to you!
Everyone, sometimes, needs a camel.
Old troubleshooters never die...
They just wait til the last moment and then rescue themselves!
