With the announcement of both a MacGyver and MacGruber. The name MacGruber still sounds like a hamburger on MacDonald's $1.00 meal. Which one do you think will do better and why? hmm.bmp

I remain an optimist and say that the MacGyver movie will do better, provided they are not also tempted to turn it into a comedy, stick with a high-quality storyline, and have RDA reprise his role. I think the SNL people will soon learn there are a majority of us who do not want them to make a mockery of our cherished, beloved series, and it will be a miserable, dismal failure. sak.gif

I hadn't actually thought about that. But your right. laugh.gif

I'd like to say the MacGyver movie for obvious reasons, but I've just been sitting here thinking about it and MacGruber is a pretty popular skit on SNL, I mean Pepsi wouldn't have used it to advertise themselves if it wasn't pulling in some serious viewer numbers, and I can't help thinking that popularity would lead a lot of people to go check out the movie (at least until the reviews start coming out saying how bad it is).

On the other hand MacGyver is a word that's thrown around a lot, and quite a few people have a vague idea of the show, but lets be honest, most younger generations haven't ever watched the show, they only know what it's about because they've read about it in Wikipedia. So if a movie does come out, they might be tempted to go see what it's all about so they really know what "MacGyvering" something really means.
Which actually makes it even more important that the producers get the movie right.

So it's pretty up in the air, but I think ,unfortunately, because MacGruber is current, more people know what it is, and I think people are more inclined to go to a movie they're fimilar with rather than one they no nothing about.

hmm.bmp um.. did I just jump my own shark?

I don't even think I would eat the MacGruber hamburger. Now the fries yes with lots of ketcup. roller.gif

I think what you said in your post is right. I still hope that RDA decides to stay as far away from it as possible. But you never know. Maybe the MacGruber movie if it were to come out first would get people, especially the youngerst curious about MacGyver. I think the problem would come if the MacGyver movie came out first. Maybe, I don't know. hmm.bmp blush.gif

I think I can deal better with MacGruber if the actual movie came out first and that it would just be a spoof like Hot Shots poking shots at Top Gun and Rambo or Scary Movie poking shots at the horrorflicks of recent years. When they're making fun of The Grudge cracked me up so hard I had tears in my eyes of laughing. The salesman trying to get rid of the hair on the ceiling, using it as wig and trying to push the boy back under water! laugh.gif
Coming to think of the actual Japanese movie is sooo frightening. unsure.gif

If MacGruber comes out first it might ruin the chance forever, unless there is a good soul out there to make things right.

But there are so many hints and tricks out there to make it right. Bryan Singer said while doing Superman Returns is to treat old franchises with the proper respect. JJ Abrams did the same thing with Star Trek and Mission Impossible and look how good they did.

SNL is working on high speed but New Line Cinema? Time for a wake up call, I guess. *Walks out the door with alarm clock and bucket of water*!

So would I or else I'd consider this as treason.

What you said makes more since. About the MacGyver movie coming out first. I still hope that RDA stays away from the MacGruber movie.

I had forgotten about all the spoofs of movies like Hot Shots, but they weren't made by SNL I don't think. It's the SNL part that worries me.

I think the MacGyver movie will do better then the MacGruber movie because MacGyver is an highly intelligent action hero who thinks his way out of anything, while the MacGruber movie will just make fun of everything MacGyver is.

It should always be MacGyver not MacGruber, period!

Of course it should always be MacGyver over MacGruber, but the question was which movie would do better at the box office. If it weren't for MacGyver there would be no MacGruber.

We can only hope that RDA stays as far away from the MacGruber movie, and endorses the MacGyver movie. I agree with the person who said that RDA shouldn't even make a cameo apparence in the MacGruber movei.

I think MacGruber is a slap in the face to all of the actrors, wirters, producers, and those who made MacGyer a iconic figure. matchs.JPG
