Hi, I'm new to this. I've been trying to work out what type of watch MacGyver wore in the earlier series and can you still get them. It looks like some type of Vietname Style Field watch?
QUOTE (MrMacFixIt @ Jan 6 2005, 05:22 am)
Hi Maca. Welcome to the community. You are fast on that registration.
Maca...my friend...it is a 'Timex military quartz mechanical olive drab army issue watch'. Im affraid the exact model is no longer sold, the last one i seen went on ebay for $80. This watch is classed as a 'classic vintage' and was sold between 1985 and 1991, i actually have a copy of one of these watches, i bought it in 1990. You can still buy similar watches such as this on in the MacGyver Online Store.
i hope this helps and please feel free to ask anything more on this topic thread as this is my favourite MacGyver topic...

Thanks for the help. I actually purchased several of the $20 watches from america only to be dissapointed by them. I came to the conclusion that the watch was not in manufacture any more and have been trying to find a modern equivelent. This has not been easy. I do believe that a modern day MacGyver would not settle for anything less than a Suunto, as currently worn by RDA in Stargate.
Hey Maca and Tomms have something in common.. They both are interested in MacGyver's watch..
QUOTE (Tomms247 @ Jan 7 2005, 08:22 am)
hey Maca dont forget the G SHOCK DW800-1VT SG1 mission watch, Mac also wheres one of those aswell, plus his army drab style watch he wears on base...
QUOTE (Maca @ Jan 7 2005, 08:39 am)
Thats probably the closest I've seen to the Original. But, it is not quite the same one. Macgyvers watch doesn't have the circular shape on the second hand, his watch has a squarish shape. If you watch the episode The Human Factor series 2, You can see His watch very clearly when he's busy making that telescope and he uses the glass crystal on his watch to do it. The closest I've seen to type of second hand is the Trooper watch I've mentioned before.
I've got this THING about watches!
QUOTE (Tomms247 @ Jan 8 2005, 05:10 am)
this is Macgyvers watch close up, this one has a circular second hand and as far as i know it was circular, this is the original which is the one i showed to you...The one he wore to use the lense from as a telescope was his first watch of the series which most of the people on this site believe is an 'amry divers military watch' possibly swiss army or something similar. This link below is very similar to his very first watch of the show.
QUOTE (Maca @ Jan 9 2005, 03:44 am)
Are you sure that is round. Those look like straight edges to me. I thought that he wore the same watch for series 1-2.
QUOTE (Tomms247 @ Jan 9 2005, 06:26 am)
he had a few watches through out the first and second season, out of all 7 seasons he had about 8 watches including a calculator watch...
QUOTE (Maca @ Jan 9 2005, 08:55 am)
He obviously had a watch thing too!
QUOTE (Tomms247 @ Feb 1 2005, 02:56 am)
iv just been looking at my Timex watch the same as macs watch in season 1, and to be honest i think this watch is a lot better than the $20 version. To buy the watch new back then would have been twice the amount of the $20 ones, id go so far as to say its probably reasonably waterproof aswell...
QUOTE (Tomms247 @ Jan 3 2006, 10:56 am)
I have just bought the new version to this, its very very similar too which was the reason i bought it. $25
exellent picture there, i have one of these watches in the picture too, as i have probably mentioned before a few time's.
QUOTE (MACGYVERISMYDAD @ Jan 4 2006, 05:32 am)
is the pic in your avatare your watch, or is it from a scene in MacGyver??
QUOTE (MACGYVERISMYDAD @ Jan 5 2006, 02:25 am)
well for everyone voting saying the best feature of MacGyver is his hands i wouldn't be suprised.
QUOTE (Tomms247 @ Jan 5 2006, 03:43 am)
The avatare is a scene from the MacGyver show, but the watch i have and the pictures posted on this topic are exactly the same as MacGyver wore in the first 3 or 4 season's of the show.

He had the calculator watch in that episode where Jack was flying the plane and mac was trying to fix the landing gear, nope wait that's not the one.
It was an episode in season 4 I think. An episode with Jack in it. And Mac was walking past either a plane or a helicoptor, I noticed he was wearing a silver and black calculator watch.
Im not great with episode's, I can remember certain scene's.
Here's the one I just bought, since it looked close enough to Mac's to make me happy! (Too bad the second hand doesn't quite line up with the minute markings! )
Kewl. thats pretty close. looks like a newer version of Macs watch.. very similar just the same.
I've just updated the MOL store to show this watch instead of the one we had there.
This is a closer match to the original watch Mac wore, so we'll sell this one in the store now. Its also the most water resistant of the choices.. water resistant to 80 feet.
I'm not sure what the original one is.. I've warn it in the shower with nor problem.. but thats as far as I've gone. The original has a sealed case so water would only get in through the winder if anywhere.. but I don't know if that has a seal on it or not.

This is what I have. And my second hand does not line up with the minute marks, either. On the black one, anyway. I guess I'm about to find out about the green one, since I lost my black one sometime between last night and today.

It's "the odd triple" from season 3.
You get a good glimpse of it as he climbs out of the plane when it lands in France.

He also wears the calculator watch in the 'environment court' scene in The Negotiator.
Gah! Ugly watch combined with a striped suit and a paisley tie! The man had the worst fashion sense in the UNIVERSE!!!

A calculator watch - that brings back some old memories, I always wished to have one in first classes on the primary school (cheating ). I don't think anyone wears a calculator watch now, many people don't even wear a watch... I have my Casio Pro-Trek PRG-50T, it has a lot of functions but I found out that I don't need them or they are not accurate enough for real use. (better to carry a real compass, altimeter or a GPS, thermometer and so on..). Like the saying - jack of all trades but master of none. I am seriously considering to buy a simple watch like MacGyver had, maybe one of those newer types with tritium...

Does anyone have a screen capture of the black military watch Mac wore? I'm trying to see exactly which one it is. I have the vintage Timex military (2 actually) but would like to see the other military watch that is mentioned. I think someone said it appeared quite well in Human Factor. That maybe the first episode I'll watch (no pun intended) when I get the sereis on DVD.
Yeah, I'm a watch nut too.
Kev
Forgot to add, the Casio watch used in Countdown is model DW-1000. Pop up now and then on eBay.
I'm pretty sure I got a good look at the black watch in one of the episodes I watched recently from either season 1 or 2.
The problem is the black watch seems to be a stand in for the olive drab Timex military that he normally wears.
Theres even a scene in the Gauntlet where his watch changes from Timex military to a metal framed watch and back again as the angle of the scene changes (scene where he's standing by the bus waiting for the firecrackers to go off.. as he looks down at his watch it changes).
The black watch.. I think... is something like this (going from memory here)...

Cool, thanks! I tried my best tyo pause the opening credits to catch a glimpse but it's pretty tough to get a decent look. That Marathon looks about right from what I saw. I'll have to check out the Gauntlet to get a look.

I just noticed this watch has a radiation emblem on it That can't be a good thing?
Yeah, like Luminox uses. Supposedly not enough to matter but enough to make ya nervous.
They used to use radium paint on the watch dials, but that stopped decades ago (although not before it killed a lot of factory workers).

My husband has a calculator watch that he uses daily. He's on his 5th or 6th one of this model. The last one had a problem with the number buttons: A macaw beaked the buttons off when he wasn't looking. I, too had a calculator watch, all through school. Funny, my teachers never noticed. I'm currently on my 5th or 6th different watch since my last calculator watch. I keep losing them. I recently had a black military-style watch, but I lost it. Then I found it again, and then I lost it again. My current timepiece is an OD military-style watch, with an OD band.
Also, while Googling, I found a watch forum. All they talk about is watches. Nymphy, need a link?
