Last year I took a trip to the Dolphin Encounters at the Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahamas.

I was surprised to learn that one of their dolphins is called “MacGyver”.

Unfortunately he wasn’t doing the swim encounter that day, so I ended up swimming with Princess instead. I didn’t get a chance to ask anyone how he got his name.. but from reading about him.. he seems to be the inventive one.

I recall something about a new Flipper movie being filmed?
I'm not sure whether it was posted on here as well, but one of the dolphin's name was MacGyver, it appeared to be the smartest of all dolphins!

If this is old news, please feel free to remove it!

It seems Dolphin Encounters have rebuilt their website and the original individual pages about the dolphins have been replaced with this new page which only mentions the MacGyver dolphin in reference to being the father of several of the newer dolphins. It does however, still mention that both he and Jake shared the role of Flipper in the Paul Hogan movie.

I was able to find a couple of pictures of him on their website though.

So while it doesn't look like you actually get to swim with MacGyver any more, you can still swim with Flipper (Jake still does the encounters) and you certainly get to swim with MacGyver's kids.

aww hes sure cute, glad they picked that name for him.
