One that comes to mind is Bones. Bones, who is an extremely intelligent forensic anthropologist with Booth the FBI agent, Mac would be a great addition to solve one of their cases.

I think 24 solves it's problems with guns and Law and Order is a who done it kind of show, from what I remember of it.

I don't know.. have you watched them? Are they the kind of show which has MacGyverisms?

I can't see how a show about people with super-powers would need MacGyverisms myself.

Home Improvement with Tim Allen. I can just see Tim and Mac trying to figure out how to fix something to fight off someone, and Mac would have to redo it.

Yep, Rush to Judgment, but he also shows detective skills in some other episodes, one in particular which reminds me of a Cold Case episode would be Lesson in Evil, where he has to figure out all the clues because the "trained detectives" are too useless to do it themselves... but I digress.
