Yes!
Where are our beloved writers?!!!
Thank heavens Beth came back to the world of the living... but the las time I read anything from Loth was in September and although MacsChick gave her excuses I DO KNOW FOR A FACT there are more writers than our beloved trio!!!!

So, WHERE ARE THEM?!! mad.gif

Do I have to start pounding down doors and offering to clean homes and apartments with brooms made out of 100%-real-cat-hair to get some action in this forum???!!!!!

No Mac-fiction means trouble people! Too much free time in my hands it's dangerous. And for those funny enough to even suggest that I write something of my own... I can't write a decent term paper I'm not gonna torture fans with my horrible writing skills!!

Well, I'm still here, sort of.

I see SMeeceymouse has left us, which is a shame.

And, no, I won't inflict my writing skills on you guys either - at least, not yet.

Everyone's bailed.

I thought of posting THAT question... but thought that I was being paranoid and everyone was in the other rooms!

So I wasn't being paranoid... where the heck is everyone?!!!!!!! Do I have to start harrassing people to get them back to this place?! Where else is there to be in the internet?!!! Are they being abducted by alien hamsters or something like that?!! Perhaps Murdoc got tired of we cheering about Mac all the time and he decided to kill members out?!!! ohmy.gif blink.gif

I didn't bail out, I just didn't got the chance to be here the last days. Spend a weekend with my best friend. He came to get me at work, we ate at my place, went to town, picked up some other friends, went to his place out of town, stayed the night there, they brought me back to work and from there on I came back. That was a long night though.

Spend the last two nights in front of my television. Catching up on things. Work's demanding but I get the job done.

Right now, it's just that every women left in the family is out of the country and it's more than obvious that I don't have to count on my (for god sakes) older brother to participate in household cleaning. We have our own cleaning lady though but it's on other jobs. Things he can do as well and it only takes five darned minutes.

Anyway I'm not going to bore you with all that babble, while I have some catching up to do. One thing is for sure: school's out and this is the real world. So I wouldn't be so surprised if I'd spend less time here than I used to. My nights are already so short so I think I'm going to have to make decision wether the computer goes on or off. Doing both computer and watching a dvd on one night is already almost impossible. So it's going to have to be either or one or the other. Time is flying. And sometimes I realise I haven't seen a movie in over two weeks. That is slowly making me nuts. Tried to upscale the amount of movies, though sometimes I don't feel like anything, but I did find out though, that it relaxes me.

So on what my writing is concerned... still planning on to continue but I have to find a balance between work, youth house and hobbies. And of course inspiration.

yeah, I was actually referring to members who use to be here every day and now haven't been heard from for months.

Some have literally disappeared without a trace.

I know peoples interests change, as do their situations, some are off at college now and others just busy as heck at work, but it's still sad to see the place get so quiet, although it is part of a forums natural life cycle, especially forums of retro-topics such as old TV shows and we've certainly gone through quiet times before, so those of us who are still here just need to plod along and chat amongst ourselves and slowly we'll draw either new members into the mix or draw some old members back.

The main problem we get with quiet periods is that inactivity breeds inactivity, people stop replying to posts so in turn people stop making posts, and hence fan fiction stops being posted because no-one leaves feedback and the writers assume no-one is reading or liking their stories, others stop posting in other forums because they get little or no replies to their posts and we end up with an ever decreasing circle.

As a side note, there's a couple (or 3) new character discussions posted we can get into discussing, and there will be more on the way in coming days and weeks. wink.gif So that might help our activity some. smile.gif

I would love to write a MacFic. In fact I have 3 started, but there is one problem. I can't finish them. sad.gif I don't know how to finish them.
Stupid huh? There is also a mental block when it comes to finishing a story, because when it is done; it is done. Really stupid, huh? Oh well so I come here to read. I know I don't post much and maybe I should, but I do love all the writers here.

No, it's not stupid, Sairalinde. It happens. Sometimes you start something and you got no way to finish it ohmy.gif In my case, my problem is that I always think of the "middle". I have no idea how things begin or how the end. I only know the in-between. So if you think you're situation it's stupid then mine is just plain demented blink.gif

I don't feel alone then. Great plots and great story ideas, but.... unsure.gif wacko.gif how does one pull it all together to make a great finish. unsure.gif

All you have to do is finish the job. Get to it, is all I can say. What I have learned in writing is that in the end, everything is coming out. I begin to write faster and faster until it stops. You'd be surprised what you can still find down there. Or up here (points to head). But you see it doesn't matter how you picture it in your head. There will always be a moment in the story you get to a dead end. In my very first story, I could see how the story should've been from beginning till the end. But even than, I got a writersblock. Forcing it out is also no option, because it caused me to rewrite When The World Changes.

Right now, I'm stuck as well on Children of the United Nations. I have inspiration for something that is supposed to happen in about five more chapters or so and I'm also thinking of the finale. But before that I still have to write like seven chapters.

Well, hi there.

I stopped posting here because I was getting little or no feedback or response to my stories here. I get feedback on ff.net, and on my LJ; so I post there, and on a couple of other sites. From my point of view, the world of the living has not been here, it's elsewhere. I can still be reached by PM through this forum, but there's been nothing there, either.

Ghostdoll, you have made it explicit that you don't like my writing, and as far as I can tell, you don't read my stories. During our last direct interaction, you flounced away swearing that you would never comment on my writing again. I give you credit that you did stick to that -- till now, anyway.

I've noticed, on my occasional passes through, that Lothi is also not getting feedback on her stories here. She gets plenty of feedback elsewhere. She and I have both been featured authors at one of the other fanfic sites we now frequent.

If you like the show, applaud, folks. Say something. If you haven't been commenting -- or if the only reaction is incomprehensible inanities -- don't be surprised if people spend their time and take their energy elsewhere.

All that said, I miss this place, and the fun I used to have here. I used to visit every day, and I still miss the sense of community. The discussions here fed into my writing, and either gave me new ideas or told my why an idea wasn't going to work. It was great. I haven't stopped writing, and I haven't stopped being a MacGyver fan. I have, however, stopped pouring water into a sandpit.

Give me some reason to believe that the sand is gone, and I might still revert to old habits.

Yeah it is disappointing to see what was once a thriving community dwindle away, and I'm at a loss to find any real reason for it.

Nothing has changed in the way of rules, restrictions or anything which would impede posting or taking part in the community. People have just stopped posting and left.

Ultimately the fate of any community rests in the hands of the members. In this case, if you want people to post their fan fiction make the effort to comment and let them know your reading it, otherwise the authors will go else-where as seems to be happening here.

I'm still around -- sort of. I have a Mac story away at the editors that I might post here. It's just the whole feedback loop thing. Feedback is like payment for a job well done, or hints for how to better next time.

This one may be my last story, though. Writing, for me at least, is more like a chore than a joy. I mean I *love* the show and the characters, but I stress over accuracy, detail, and believability. That's what keeps me from being prolific. I don't know -- I think I'd be more likely to team write than go solo at this point...

I never got much feedback either, it's I think because despite our number of members only a very few actually stuck around.

Fanfiction.net has a pretty complicated way of sending in stories. I'd posted one of my stories there or two but I deleted them out. If I ever can get back into it, maybe I send them all in, but I don't feel like being pointed out on mistakes I made back than.

As I said before: being here everyday is becoming less and less, but when I'm here, I'm actually here. If there's one site I'm on, it's this one. Every minute of the day, this is like my starterspage.

I'm still here. Don't worry--I haven't abandoned you. I'm just dealing with a lot of heavy personal and emotional issues at the moment that require more of my time and attention, so I don't get to visit as often. I'm hoping soon that will change, but until then unfortunately my visits will become less frequent (temporarily). I will try to participate when I can, because I love this community. smile.gif

I'm with Beth. I pop on here every now and then, but not like I once did. I've only written a handful of Mac fics, though I might be doing one for NaNo (still haven't decided). If I do, I'm not sure if I'll post it here or not. I tend to write more, um...grown up fic than some here seem to appreciate. I write a darker Mac than some can handle. And if I write this one, it will be a Stargate crossover, so...not the best fit for here.

Why can't it be a good fit here? I believe MacsChick wrote like 2 stories that were MacGyver/Stargate crossovers (and if memory serves me well, one was an "explanation" of how Murdoc managed to survive all his "deaths").

Sure why not? In my When The World Changes I had Jack O' Neill and General Hammond as guest stars.

I have gotten the impression that some here don't like SG and would prefer to keep it Mac only, is all.

And while I by no means write NC-17 or whatever, my Jack O'Neill curses occasionally, and thus my fic can't be posted here without censoring, which is not cool.

Thus, not the best fit for here.

I haven't made an announcement of it, but as it's been brought up here, this would be as good a place as any to mention that the word filters have been reset to only catch the 2 major "bombs".

I remember wabbit asking about this once before, and I couldn't find a way to get around it without switching the filters off, which I wasn't keen to do at the time, but swearing isn't really an issue for us anymore as we have other ways to deal with excessive swearing.

Anyone who wants to read my Mac fic (or any of my other fic, for that matter) can head here:

Or here, to make it a bit easier to find things:

Well my stories has a lot of swearing too. The whole vocabulary is in there. But the best way to uncensor it is by writing the whole word and replace the vowel with a *. Than most of us probably can figure out which word you mean. That's how I do it.

Mine have extraordinarily rare swearing. However, if I use a curse word, it's important, and you can rest assured I've thought a lot about it and I want it as is.

Honestly, it is a very, very, very small issue for me with this site. This site is "family friendly" so the rule is no curse words. Okay. Fine. Change it just for here. That's cool. However, I honestly just don't have time to keep up with my stories in lots of different places. I respond to every review people give me, and I take a very active role in my stories and in the feedback I'm given, etc. So, for me, having everything in one place is just easier. And Mac is a small percentage of my work, so...I just archive it on the big sites. And I also find that the crowd here is different than the crowd elsewhere and it is less likely to enjoy my work/I feel uncomfortable posting it here.

Just how it is.

I'm curious as to which two. I can think of three possibilities that someone might consider a "bomb." Since I don't believe in "bad words", I'm not the one to ask, and I'm honestly curious what a person who believes in "bad words" would consider the worst ones. One, of course, is obvious, but the other...hm...like I said, there are two candidates in my mind.

I do it out of nostalgia for the movies of the late '80's early 90's. Everything was much more allowed. All my stories will be rated R that I will post here. Can't deal with that don't read it. Besides the site is not responsible for the content of the story, the author is. That's also why we have these ratings.

Back on topic for just a moment...

I started a new story, but once again I'm not sure if I like it. It happens to me sometimes. The holidays are also coming, so I've been pretty busy, but I will post again as soon as I can! smile.gif

No, he's right. Watch an 80's movie that is rated PG and you will see kids with guns, kids smoking, kids cussing, etc. None of that would be allowed today. I mean, they took the guns out of ET, for crying out loud! And now Greedo shot first? Whatever.

In fact, here's a blog I wrote on this very subject for SFX magazine.

http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=blog_l..._squad#comments

However, you are right on the second point. MGod, there are always site rules, and they must be followed. I thought the ratings would allow the single curse word I had in one of my stories, but it was cut out anyway. Which is fine, because it is the rules, but that single word was crucial to the story, so the story was castrated when it was removed. I do not use profanity lightly, especially in Mac fic, as Mac didn't curse that we know of, etc. The word was important, and without it, the story lost a ton of impact. I don't remember if I actually pulled it from this site (I don't think I did, though if I'd been given the choice of posting it without the word or not posting it, I think I would have chosen the latter) but it was enough to keep me from posting my others. (Even though I don't think they have any curse words.) It wasn't the censoring that so injured me, but that I didn't get to give my permission. It was just done. As a writer, even of fanfic, I wasn't okay with that.

Incidentally, I have been complemented strongly on other sites for using the word. I've been told that it was powerful and in character. It really was important.
