Back when I was in High School we had public speakers every so often

One time we had "The Winston Man".

Dave Goerlitz who was the former winston man, become a motivational speaker for anti-smoking.

He stated he was Harrison Ford's and RDA's stunt double in the 80's.

I have not noticed anything on imdb about him, but if you google his name and macgyber you get a hit.

Always thought Steve Blalock was his double, but guess he had a few.

Hmm, non of the pages I just looked at from the Google search actually mention MacGyver or RDA.

The closest thing I found was a statement saying he's a professional actor, but doesn't mention any shows he's been in.

He's also not listed in the full show credits for MacGyver.

I'm pretty sure that if he had been a stand in for Harrison Ford he would be listed on IMDb.

I think it's fair to say that article is blatantly wrong. We know he wasn't RDA's stunt double in MacGyver. That role was taken by Steve Blalock and later Dan Shea. Having said that it is possible that he may have been a stand in for a single scene or episode in season 1 and just blown out of proportion by the writers of that article. It is after all a promotional article and not an actual biography.

According to IMDb, Harrison Fords stunt double in the movie Witness was Vic Armstrong. Dave Goerlitz isn't mentioned anywhere.

I think it would be really interesting for someone to stand up at one of his talks and ask him why he wasn't credited as Fords stunt double in the Witness movie and which shows/episodes he worked on with RDA.

Actually if you search for "The Winston Man" in Google you get Alan Landers, so there's even more weirdness.

that was for SG:1.

His MacGyver work was limited to the last couple? of seasons. The majority of MacGyver work was done by Steve Blalock.

The only thing I can think of is Goerlitz claims he was harrison fords "photo stunt double".... I'm guessing that is different then a "stunt double"?

Which also might make it less important and less likely to be credited.

Hmm.. I wouldn't know what the difference is.

If I recall correctly, that's another term for a stand-in. Basically, as part of the sardine-packed nature of shooting, they might set up a shot with a person of the right height and vaguely similar appearance, so they can get the lighting and camera angles right, while the actual actor is off doing something else (sleeping, eating, doing another scene). It can certainly happen when there's a photo shoot as well, especially if it's during production. (In one of the interviews on the site here, RDA mentioned that he hated photo shoots, so he would not have wanted to spend a lot of time doing it.)

The main qualification for this is that the stand-in has to be breathing . . . not exactly a big-time credit.

That comment just jogged my memory of this line from an article we have posted here, which I must say is a very interesting look behind the scenes and well worth a read.

Yup, that's it. Not exactly something to brag about, unless you can spin it a bit. As I said, the main requirement for a stand-in is 'alive and breathing'.
