I read that Victorinox have a mini-screwdriver addon that fits in the corkscrew...

Can this mini-screwdriver replace the functionality of the philips screwdriver, let's say on the tinker model?

How wide is the tip? And would you suggest it buying it to obtain phillips functionality on the climber model as well?

I know that the can opener has a screwdriver as well that can be used for philips screws but sometimes it does not fit... So I was thinking maybe this addon will do the job...

As you can see, it's a flat screwdriver. It's also very very small, probably only good for tightening screws on eyeglasses. You may be able to modify it by pulling it apart and inserting a very small phillips in it's place, depending on how strongly the screwdriver blade is fastened to the grey handle. If you could do that, then it would be more useful for things such as cameras, laptop computers and other electronic devices.

Also, did you know there's a place on your knife that can hold a pin? Look under your corkscrew or phillips screwdriver where it's attached to the handle, if you see a tiny little hole, that's where a sewing pin can go. If you have an older model it may not have that feature, but most newer SAKs do.

I use to follow the line of thought shown here by others regarding the small screw driver on the end of the can opener blade being a suitable Philips replacement for the sake of keeping the cork screw. However got a tinker a couple of years ago for my birthday and I have to say the philips screw driver in place of the corkscrew is WAY more useful than the corkscrew or the little driver blade.

The tip of the corkscrew driver goes down to a much finer point allowing it to be used on smaller screws. The way it opens to the T shape allows for much more solid and square pressure to be applied both in downward force and twisting meaning you can use it on big and small screws as well as tight or loose screws.

As I'm a bit of a tinkerer myself, having a decent philips screw driver in my pocket which fits small to medium sized screws with a good pressure and twist ability has proved very useful in the 2 years I've owned it.

So I can say with all honesty that there really isn't a comparison between the little screw driver on the end of the can opening and the full size one which replaces the cork screw. And I would recommend to anyone who is buying a SAK as a useful tool to carry in their pocket to purchase one which has the screwdriver instead of the corkscrew.

I think if you really need good phillips srewdriver victorinox explorer model is great. Its only four layer knife so its not too thick to carry in pocket. I remember theres also been two layer victorinox model with phillips srewdriver on the main blade side called yeoman, but iam not sure is it on market anymore.

Basically, as you can see from my profile info, I own both a tinker and a climber... My two favourite knives... one with a philips and the other with a corkscrew...

However, I am more attached to my tinker model. I work in the computer industry and having the phillips screwdriver at hand in the tinker really proved useful in many occassions... Therefore I perfectly agree with Rockatteer but was a bit curious about the miniscrewdriver addon capabilities...
