Hi everyone,

I've been ploughing through all mac episodes over the past couple months and I'm 5 eps in to the 4th series. In the episode Survivors where Pete and mac are in the forest mac does a nifty trick to tie a figure of 8 knot for the tethered off end of the grapple - does anyone know how on earth he did it?

Cheers!!

is that the one where he wraps it around his hand several times before finishing the knot?

If it is that one, as far as I have ever been able to work out it's a BS television knot done for effect only; it looks good but achieves nothing. If you do exactly what Mac does, you find that all those loops he makes around his hand just undo themselves and you end up with a single basic knot.

Mac's knots are too stupendous as him. matchs.JPG

Haha, if he is as good at tying knots as he is at picking locks then I'd say it probably was a "BS television knot" as Rocky called it roller.gif

A long time ago I made a compilation video (it's long gone now, I'm afraid) of all of the times mac picked a lock. The majority of the time he didn't even actually turn the lock cylinder, it was just to look cool. That's probably how the knot tying was.

Just for us geeks every television show should have a "reality consultant" on set to stop them from doing things that are painful to watch. Someone shooting a revolver 9 times without reloading, throwing a grenade that doesn't go off for 12 seconds while people dart and dash everywhere, and those atrocious scenes where a super fast sports or exotic car just can't seem to outrun cop cars with 50% less horsepower headbutt.gif
