I love the Mac theme song, I turn the TV up loud and tap along to it, but at around the episode Lost Love they change it to a much shorter, and different sounding theme. After about 15 or so episodes, it goes back to the longer version.

Why was it changed to such a horrible shorter version in the first place?

I actually like the Lost Love version. The usual length is about 1 minute and 10 seconds. Season 3 has about 45 seconds. That never bothered me

The variation in the theme songs is actually quite remarkable. But each season the theme songs sounds different. Season 1 and 2 and also others.

You might notice in the first five episodes of season 4 there's a piano sounding. And from season 5 till 7 the music during the explosion title shot was like moved forward. In my opinion much better.

The shorter version of the theme used in season 3 didn't really bother me much either, but just checking out the intro from "Lost Love" it's definitely not my favorite version. I absolutely love the theme that they started using in season 5 (I think it was the same for 6, but changed in 7). When the title explosion hits the music just seems so have much more punch behind it and leaves no doubt you are watching an epic TV show.

I don't remember the season 4 episodes...might have to drag out my DVD's and have a look. The shorter version doesn't seem to go for all of season three, though, just a third of it. I was wondering if that's just the way it was here or if everyone knows what I mean.
I like the season 1 and 2 version. The longer the better, I say!

Since the past ten years or so, opening credits aren't as long as they used to be. 24 has a theme song of not even 30 seconds and doesn't have an opening credits at all.

Lost has a about the same length of theme song I think. Opening credits is just the title flowing over the screen in only 16 seconds of time.

The Shield has about the same thing.

The days of a maybe at the time lengthy opening credits are over.
