How would MacGyver handle all the tech that's in the world now, I know he will be the same old Mac we know, but what if they had a tv show of MacGyver now? Would it be like Burn Notice without guns?

This is a really good question!

I think there certainly would be a similarities to Burn Notice. Obviously the brains over brawn theme would still be the underlying drive of the show, So I guess really I'm saying that the show would essentially be the same kind of show, but just updated, in the same way that Mission impossible was updated in the movies and Hawaii Five-o has been updated with the new series.

MacGyver would still rely on his knowledge to save the day, but he would be using modern day tools and modern day knowledge and science.

I actually think if done well it would be a seriously cool show!

I don't know...it might get a little repetitive:

Stuck in an elevator? There's an App for that

Being chased by bad guys and need an alternate route? There's an App for that

Bomb about to go off and you need to know how to defuse it? There's an App for that

I think we've had this discussion before but no better to get some life back. Indeed updated it would be. I've seen some episodes of the renewed Hawaii Five-Oh. I'm unfamiliar with it's original but for what I saw it was spectacular and I at least new Kevin Hiattus from The Shield and Daniel Dae Kim from Lost.

Repetitive I don't know. In the end most of the original MacGyverisms end up with the same result. blowup.gif Doors blowing open. It's always the same mixture, maybe just diffirent ingrediënts. Explosions, smokescreens and such...

And of course wireless phones would now be replaced by cellphones, TV and computer screens would be flatscreens. Walkmans would be mp3 or Iphone, blackberry. Videos would be dvd. I'm sure he has a dvd collection full of westerns.

MacGyver Today would still be as interesting as it was in the 80's. Dealing with missions overseas, great new adventures with Jack, still being chased and hunted down by Murdoc, dealing the teenage problems nowadays. However they'd be much the same as it was in the 80's-90's.

And of course a lot happened in the world in the past few years that would be worthy of Mac-episode. The earthquakes in Haïti and Japan, the vulcanic eruptions in Iceland, the death of Osama Bin Laden, the revolutions in North-Africa... But still older events would be worthy of an episode: 9/11, the war against the Taliban, the taking of Saddam...

And maybe very interesting an episode on how America was led by president Bush and president Obama.

Maybe the only difference would be that it's going to be a lot more fast paced. More fast paced action than it used to. Not that pace was slow in the original series. Look at Humanity. I'll always end up saying that episode first. Good story, good pace and intense. That's really an episode that doesn't bore you for a second.

Come to the think of it: the world still needs Mac!!! w00t.gif

duct tape, and SAK's aside, I would hope that Mac would still be very much the same. The need for a positive role model on tv and the ability to think a situation through and not just go in guns a'blazin' would be so refreshing right about now. Throughout the series there was a feeling of optimism that is found lacking in today's viewing environment. Today's world needs a hero like Mac.

I think that would be an awesome idea. I was actually watching a MacGyver marathon on Sleuth not too long ago, and the commercial break they had to advertise the marathon was sorta like that. It was the standard stuff: timer counting down to zero, a jumble of wires with Mac snipping away at them. But there's a pretty clever twist. Here's the commercial if you wanna see it:

Knowledge is the light of the world, science the candle.

That was a good ad but Mac doesn't wear those kinds of boots or jeans and he'd never have a microwaved meal!!!

I did love it when he (or whoever) was fiddling with the microwave and the girl walks in and asks who had been messing with it. Hahaha!

There is still a need for MacGyver in our day and age, he would use the Tech we

have but i do belive he would limit himself on the Tech and would use his brain.

But if they made a tv show of macGyver today how would it turn out?

Who would play Pete? MacGyver?

I'm hoping Rick would still play Mac if he can, but I'm guessing we will find out if

he would play in the movie first before we jump ahead to the tv show.

I can see the old man of Fringe doing that. You know that troubled professor who plays Joshua Jackson's dad in it.

They were probably only planning on using the ad during this one marathon, so they never really did much research on Mac. The idea is just so clever though.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed it! I got a huge kick out of it when I saw it.

The actor's name is John Noble and I think we all know him better as the Steward of Gondor from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I think there needs to be a physical resemblance for the main characters. Whihc will make casting Pete somewhat tricky. THey might be better to movwe the story past Petes death and have somone else in his role.

I've always said I'd like to see Nikky Carpenter in that role. She seems like a natural replacement to me as she has the history with MacGYver to give their relationship the same kind of depth that he and Pete had.

I'm going to have to agree. I'd much rather they just move on with the story and work in Pete's death then try to get another actor to replace him. And even if they don't use Nikki, they should probably use someone who Mac already has chemistry with.

The only one who could ever replace Pete is dead too. Late Don Davis.

Indeed Nikki would be a great solution. I intend to use that fact in my hopefully future stories so they would lead the Phoenix Foundation together.
