Hi everyone, I'm a Belgian fan.

I remember as a kid there was an episode where MacGyver hangs himself. It was some sort of knot and rope under his armpits.

Is thiss correct or is my mind playing tricks?

Your thinking of a scene from the episode "The Road Not Taken" in season 2.

He pretends to hang himself and Amy screams for the guard to come in and as the guard is standing looking at MacGyver thinking he has hung himself he kicks the guard in the face and knocks him out.

Darn, when I saw this thread, I was hoping there was an alternate ending to season 7, in which Mac gets so fed up with all the stupid people he has to deal with throughout the season that he finally just hangs himself. If they did that, I think it would have been great to bring back the voice-over narration one last time.

I picture him in his apartment by himself, tying the rope to a ceiling beam, and we'd hear his voice saying something like, "My grandpa Harry once told me that every man has his limit. I'm not sure what Harry's limit was, but I think I've reached mine. Losing the houseboat was bad enough. Seeing my jeep get shot to pieces was a tough pill to swallow. Finding out that pretty much every woman I ever dated was either a psychopath or died a tragic death, well, that wasn't much fun either. But I think I could have handled all of that. What I realized I couldn't handle was living in this neighborhood, surrounded by people who make Penny Parker seem tolerable. Fortunately, Harry also taught me how to tie a really good strong knot."
At this point, he'd finish tying the knot, and climb up onto a chair, slipping his head through the noose.
"See you soon, Harry..." he steps off the chair and the show ends. Cue theme music: "Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da daaaah! da-da daaa!", etc.

Thanks for the hilarious piece, Miasma! And nice payoff, MacGyverGod.

You know, the funny thing is, a while back when I was in the area, I strolled around the neighbourhood a bit, and it struck me how much it looked like in the MacGyver days. Very hippie atmosphere. In fact, I had the feeling Mama Lorraine could be trotting around the corner any moment. There even was a little shop that could have been hers.

Selling datura leaves and other vodoo stuff.

You know my personal view on the seventh season is actually that it's not so bad. I grew up watching them several times. When I had them on VHS I had to do it with The Hood, Obsessed, The Prometheus Syndrome, Good Knight MacGyver parts 1&2, Off The Wall and Fountain of Youth. When your 7-8-9 years old, you look through all that stuff. So I never cared much about it. I never noticed until later that RDA and company were actually done with it during the whole last season.

I wish season 7 had ended on a better note. They could have still kept the story line with SAM, but rather than Mac and SAM riding off on their motorcycles, perhaps SAM could have gotten in trouble in some country that even the Pheonix Foundation didn't or couldn't get involoved with so MacGyver resigned in order to rescue his son. The series could have ended with MacGyver telling Pete, "I gotta go. SAM needs me."

Yeah there was a definite feeling of pulling everything apart at the end. They ripped apart the Pete and MacGyver relationship which was a fundamental element of the show, MacGyver left the foundation which was practically one of the backbones of the show. It kinda felt like everything MacGyver stood for and cared about suddenly didn't matter anymore.

I agree. I wish the last episode had ended differently. It kind of left you hanging and Mac leaving and saying goodbye to Pete was very disappointing. Pete was his best friend, for cryin out loud!

Question: Though you have quite an ending there, Miasma and MGod (lol, love your finale, mgod!) , how would any of the rest of you ended the series? I really think they could've at least made The Stringer a 2 part episode. Everything was too packed in together, imo.

I see the series as being left open ended, thanks to the movies. It kinda left it up to the imagination of the audience.

Me personally? I would have just left it. I actually liked the final episode and felt that they were just trying to give Mac a happy ending. Because of the movies, it's obvious Mac and Sam eventually went their own ways, and Mac either returned home to Minnesota or it's very likely he went back to Phoenix. If "Young MacGyver" says anything, it sounds like he went back to Phoenix after the "road trip". At least, that's what I always thought.

As far as Mac hanging himself... that makes me kinda unhappy. sad.gif <--- see? Sadface

Yeah, I know, I know. lol I know it's not technically canon, but if it had actually aired, and Clay had been trained by MacGyver, then it would have meant Mac went back to his old life once he and Sam split ways.

I didn't at first either, but he grows on you if you let him. I ended up really liking Sam. I think it's because Mac finally has a living blood relative, so he's not so alone. He's got someone he can kinda pal around with that is more like him.

I always accepted Sam as his son and I liked The Stringer. And I agree with Jediferret. And if you let him grow on you, you might really like Sam. I think he's one of those kids who is quite mature for his age but still makes kid mistakes like acting impulsive as with the gun. He thought violence was the solution as Mac makes clear it's not and later decides to pick up the gun anyway but was prevented to use it.

I think Sam could've been a great season 1-like Mac. If there has been an 8th season they could compare isms. Maybe act as a sort of friendly rival. And when necessary combine their ideas. Of course it's not about who is best but what works best.

Sam could've been a great character, unfortunately he only has one episode.

No matter what people may think and the fact that Mac is a loner is way cool, I don't think I would've mind that he had a family. ...

Jack Bauer had a family too. OK, his wife is dead because of his job. And that's what worried Mac big time. There's always that: what if they find her and kill her? Jack also had his daughter Kim. She didn't want to have any thing to do with him after her mother died but they grew together again. Despite they might not see each other that much.

What I'm actually trying to say is characters with families can also be represented as loners.
