Here it is! Our first look at what the new MacGyver comic and imaging will look like.

He needs a shave! Mac was rarely walking around with stubble!

Yeah that's a fair comment. MacGyver was always the clean cut hero, but it could be that they are making this one a little more gritty, although to be honest I think I would rather see him stay clean shaved.

Other than that though I think it looks awesome! I can't wait for the comics!

I like the way that the hair style, jacket and satchel are brought up-to date and current - it still holds most of the "essence" of that original MacGyver (I would also agree, though, that he should be clean shaven - he doesn't need the "Don Johnson" effect.. !).

It wouldn't have seemed quiet right to have him looking 1980's retro' in the middle of modern technology..

Well, if he's on the run from 20 highly motivated hitmen, I think we can understand his not finding time to shave. (If he found the time, he could certainly find the tools.)

I originally saw this elsewhere online, when the choice of the new artist was announced. As I recall, it was the new artist's 'audition piece', as it were; so this gives us an idea of his style, but isn't necessarily how the character will appear in the end. It's very, very promising, though, especially since it proves the artist is familiar with the source material -- he's drawing directly from it (pun not actually intended).

I like the look generally, especially them sticking with the brown eyes. I actually hope they go for long-scruffy-hair rather than The Mullet. For me, it will retain enough of the 'look' without nailing him down to the retro era (and provoking still more mullet jokes).

The one thing I'm not seeing here that I hope they'll pick up on is the unique shape of the hands: not just because they're RDA's, but the unusually long fingers and bent thumb are extremely striking visually. It means that any image of Mac's hands will be instantly recognizable. Because of the MacGyverisms, in a visual medium (TV, graphic novels), there are going to be a lot of hand shots.

I don't mind the scruff... it's difficult in a single frame to establish the maturity/age of a character without some subtle clues.

I certainly like the ice cream! lol

It has been approved by Lee Zlotoff though. He has final say over everything, so unless they decide to make changes based on feedback, etc this will be pretty close to what they have decided to go with - at this point in time anyway.

Yeah I loved that they've used a couple of shots from the opening titles. I thought that was really cool to have that immediate through-back to the show right from the get go.

Perfect, Will! This means you'll do even better than the tv show, because in later seasons they used hand doubles that didn't even resemble the real thing.

Hey no-one's mentioned the napsack in the drawing. A nice little through-back to the pilot episode.

And yeah, I noticed the knapsack, but I hope it doesn't make a comeback in the graphic novel. The knapsack was skipped after the pilot, and rightly so. Mac doesn't need it, he uses what he finds along the way.

Maybe he picked it up along the way? (It's actually a game bag, as in hunting, rather than a knapsack.) (You can blame Lothi and The Rainmakers for my actually knowing the difference.)

How is it that it always winds up being 'Lothi's fault'?

I just noticed something I hadn't seen in this picture before.

The smoke coming out of the truck has MacGyverisms in it. How cool!
