I've been buying some kitchenware and getting more into cooking lately, and it got me wondering what gear Mac had in his kitchen and if I could identify any of it. Before I start watching the whole series again in my quest, can anyone name some episode were Mac was specifically cooking or serving food at home? I'd appreciate any help, hoping maybe that will get some results a little quicker. Just to get me started, then I'll look through the other episodes eventually.

There was once a website called The MacGyver cookbook. I'm not sure if we have such a page on the site. It was a website about everything he'd done in the kitchen or what he ate during the whole series.

Maybe you can start out with Out in the Cold and figure our his potato timer.

I'm happy to start this off with one of my favorite episodes, one that features a great story, great bad guys (whom almost seem likable), and a great wintertime setting. Out In The Cold is one of the best of the best, and coincidently also features some pretty decent shots of Mac's loft apartment kitchen and cookware.

I'll begin with the smaller bowl with no lid he brings over to the table after Pete sits down. I am almost certain this is a Pyrex model 323, 1.5 liter mixing bowl. While the image below isn't the greatest, watching the scene all the way shows it more distinctively.

I don't know when they began making these, but they've been around a long time, is part of a four piece set, and have been made in a variety of colors ranging from tinted to painted or decorated. You can still buy them brand new, but to get one exactly like Mac had, you'll need to get one labeled "Corning" on the bottom, as the Pyrex kitchenware division was sold to another company a few years ago.

Next up is another Pyrex product, Mac's potato-powered timer features two 600 ml Pyrex griffen beakers (says so right on them!). While not as versatile as the mixing bowl, they could still be useful in a kitchen, and are relatively cheap and easy to find online.

The final item from Out In The Cold had me stumped at first with it's odd square knob on top, but the shape of the bowl itself gave it away. Mac's "tofu casserole" was served in a Anchor Hocking 2 qt, 9 inch casserole bowl. I can't seem to find a specific model number for this, but I see them listed on ebay in both clear and tinted colors.

On a side note, I thinks Mac's "tofu" looks more like refried beans.

Wow, how did you find that all out? Anyway a bowl is a bowl for me, but kitchenwear is also something that changes through time. However do have to say, I think my grandma used to have an exame same lid as in the picture above but than with a round knob instead of a square.

Oh gosh, I guess it's a series of events. It started with me wanting some more decent cookware and containers to keep food in. I was interested in cast iron, but it cost a little more than I can afford right now, and it's also something you can never really find in thrift stores or garage sales either. What I did find was a couple cool looking pyrex bowls that turned out to be from 1950, and after doing some research on them, somehow I got hooked on vintage glass cookware.

And yes, I know that's an odd hobby for a dude, but someday maybe I'll meet a girl who appreciates a guy who can cook.... and serves it on really cool looking plates and stuff. lol!

I was in a Goodwill store the other day and came across Mac's casserole bowl. It was missing the lid (which can be a pain to find sometimes) so I decided to pass, but it got me thinking and when I came home I jumped online and discovered ::drumroll:: that Anchor Hocking is still producing these. I feel silly for not checking this before, but who would have thought that they would still be making the exact same bowl 25 years later! A really good design I guess, the one I found at Goodwill was built like a tank. It appears exactly the same, although it's possible the markings on the bottom have changed since then.

They are calling it the Oven Basics Casserole now, model# 81932OBL5, and it appears to have a retail of about $15.
