Check out this iPhone case developed by ex-apple engineer, Addison Shelton.

The case houses 16 tools including a 2.5-inch knife with serrations, a 1.8-inch sawblade, screwdrivers, and a bottle opener. The screwdriver even doubles as a kickstand for watching videos.

Makes you wonder... how would Mac take cellphones of today compared to that "brick" he had in the show? lol

The only reason iPhones get all the accessories made for them is because they are constantly the same size and shape with the same size plug in the same place. This means it's easy to make a device with a iPhone cradle built in because it is a standard size, although they have shot themselves in the foot a bit with the latest phone having a different connector size. Android OS, on the other hand goes on a variety of different phones which are all different shapes and sizes making it impossible to have a standard accessory.

Imagine the problems this will cause for people trying to board a plane though.

Would be cool to see Victorinox get involved.

Ooooh, I want that case for Christmas!! For the plane travellers, perhaps they would want to have 2 different cases. One for their travels and one for normal home time.

Dear god, don't give the people in the Wenger division any ideas! lol They come up with enough odd (sometimes cool-ish) stuff on their own. It's cool that someone made this just to have done it, but I cant see anything practical. A phone would make a horrid handle, at best you'd break you phone eventually or cut your hand.

I think Mac would be making some use of a modern phone. However he might find some ethics issues with the data these companies collect the first time Murdoc found a way to use it to track his whereabouts, or that of Mac's friends.

I tend to agree that it's not all that practical though. Your not going to pull it out in the rain, or while your hands are greasy or dirty or really any situation where your expensive and fragile iPhone could be damaged.

That's kinda why I thought of Victorinox doing one. They would think about all that stuff and you know it would be "da bomb!"

Hmm. Still seems like it would be awkward-ish to use. And just imagine a dramatic life or death scene where Mac is using this thing and it starts to RING! That's a funny thought, I'm picturing him fishing it through the barred door in Cleo Rocks.

It seems like you could sneak this onto an airplane. Usually they let you put the phone in a tray next to the metal detector, and they never look at the phone. Not that I would do it, but it seems easy to get away with.

Don't those items go through an X-ray machine beside the metal detector? I'm pretty sure the trays go through a big box which is an x-ray machine so they can check all the items in the tray.

It would seem like a pretty big security hole if they didn't really because people could hide knives or bombs in their shoes otherwise.

I haven't been on a plane in a while, but I thought you only put your shoes, belt, and bags in the X ray Scanner. Isn't there a bowl where you put your keys and phone next to the metal detector that you walk through?

Well I will cede that point to you, but I still don't know if the machine can tell the difference between the phone, metal phone case, and metal blades.

As you can see in the below x-ray images the outlines of everything shows up so they would be able to see the blades and tools in the phone. Or at the very least see that something was different to what they are use to seeing.

I reckon that a case like this would be more practical IF certain tools ~ like a knife, saw blade, scissors and maybe the file blade ~ were made to be separate and removable slide out items... (Then they could always simply be removed for international travel, and parked in your check-through luggage..).

Like on those Victorinox "credit card" style wallet-sized tools ~ except that the knife and scissors would be a more-useable size, as well, and would slide out of the back of the phone case. So the width of the case would be the same as many others ~ it would simply be a half-centrimetre or so thicker than the phone alone..

This simply seems like a more practical and "workable" solution to me...
