I don't know if News of the Weird runs in newspapers in countries other than the U.S., but here's an item from today's column:
Biologist Phil Torres, working from the Tambopata national park in Peru, revealed in December that that he had witnessed a tiny Cyclosa spider construct a replica of an eight-legged spider in a web made of leaves, debris, and dead insects. Since the real spider was found nearby, Torres hypothesized that the wily arachnid had built a decoy to confuse predators.

Or a spider with a mullet. XD
But that's pretty cool. Spiders are amazing. There's a spider that makes webs over water and they catch FISH! I have a love/hate feeling about spiders... they're pretty cool, but down right creepy lookin'. But as long as they respect my space and stay away from me, they won't get squashed.

As a rule, I like spiders and bugs, or at least don't mind them. When I was a kid, I spent half my time running around outside, plus I grew up in a partially wooded area, so I saw a *lot* of them, both outside and inside the house, and got pretty used to them. Also, I have a pretty calm disposition and am not easily freaked out by anything.
The only exceptions are bugs that bite (especially black flies, which are an absolute plague in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin in May and June) and also centipedes... there's something about all those weird, feathery legs that absolutely gives me the creeps!! Ick!! *shudder*

It's just the way the crawl and usually I jump up to the ceiling if I see one, but I'm not really afraid of them. Though it makes my skin crawl.

Yeah centipedes are creepy looking things, and many of them are venomous too.
I'm not really fond of the bigger spiders, but we have a very small jumpy spider that's very common here and quite fun to play with. They look a little bit like a crab because their two front legs are longer than the others, but they jump when you touch them and scurry around really fast. And they are small a furry with different shades of brown on them, quite cute little things.
This guy, on the other hand gets killed on sight!! It's a white tailed hunting spider. They bite and while not poisonous, they do produce local pain, swelling and itchiness. And they look creepy as hell when they crawl around too!

Yaaargh!!!!
I wonder how Mac stands towards spiders. He's not too crazy about snakes, doesn't like having them around. But on spiders... it's never mentioned.

I don't have a problem with spiders, unless they are in my space. I still don't mind them in a corner or between the screen and window...unless they are poisonous! The Widows got to go *WHACK*!!! We have Black Widows here, but the Brown Widows are actually beginning to take over in our area. Bummer because they are harder to spot, though I have smashed a couple last year at work. I have seen pictures of the Brown Recluse that we have here too, but I still wouldn't know one to look at it. Hopefully I won't have to get bit to begin to recognise it!!!
For me it's any kind of bug with a stinger in it's rump!!! YIKES, I'm headed for the hills!!!

If I ever meet Shelob from Lord of the Rings, I'd probably faint. You know the spider season in Belgium is mostly around September, when summer starts going over into fall.
When I just moved in the house, I even killed a spider without even knowing. It wasn't until the other day when the lights were on, I noticed it. Just like spiders I like the dark.
If I ever get bit, I hope my dna gets mixed with the spider's and that I can be a superhero the next day.
