Long ago there was a thing called Usenet. (Kids, ask your parents.) On Usenet there was a group called alt.tv.MacGyver. One interesting thread was called, "What would you do if you were stuck on a desert island with MacGyver?" Most of folks on that group were women, and most of their answers involved romance. But one person made this post, which I've had saved for years. See what you think:

If you're stranded on an island with Mac, no doubt you wound up there after the bad guys left you both for dead. You are the guest star for that episode and thus are somehow the victim of the bad guys' nefarious plot. It is mostly your job to tell Mac that it's over, you're both finished. Then it's time for you to unburden yourself to Mac about either your involvement with the bad guys or some deep personal issue that is dragging you down. Despite your seemingly hopeless situation Mac will lend a compassionate ear, and he'll even offer a surprisingly workable solution. "That'd be great," you say, "but we're never going to get off this island!" (Sarcastic variants of this line are acceptable.)

Cue the "Mac has an idea" music as the man spots a random object that could turn the tide. It's MacGyverism time! Now your role is to gape and ask Mac things like "What are you doing NOW?" as he works on your escape. From there it's off to foil the bad guys. Limber up first, you might have to bonk one of them over the head with an improvised blunt object as events play out. If you're especially troubled you might get to hold a gun on the main villain while Mac tells you in warning tones that this isn't the way to go. You will realize that your soul is on the line here and drop the gun. You may be in tears as you do this, but Mac will hold you as you cry, so that's all good.

Once the bad guys are tucked away, Mac will effect his solution to your deep personal issue, although most of the work will take place off camera when the episode wraps. It is implied that you will have a continuing relationship with Mac, but your character will never be seen again. You, however, will return in an entirely different role in a later episode.

I'm thinking that I would go and ask him if he wants to check out the area, go into the jungle? Or if he needs my help, he just needs to say the word.

Oh man... I just had the bad idea to do MacGyver scenes to the Gilligan's Island theme. Thank god I don't have a capture device... yet...

My experience would probably be like that on Pirates of the Caribbean where Mac would burn all the rum to make a smoke signal... and then I'd have to kill him.
