The BIG BLUE PARKA, at least that's what I've always called it, that Mac wore in several episodes including "The Mask of the Wolf" and "The Survivors" is made by The North Face. I went out and bought mine shortly after watching the original broadcast of "The Mask of the Wolf", knowing that if I wanted one I'd better get it quick, because there was no way of knowing how long before the episode aired that the jacket purchased.

The buttons, snaps, zippers, elastic draw strings and the plastic spring loaded tabs that allow adjustment of the drawstring (in the hood and waist) are black.

The jacket closes via a zipper with dual wind flap (one on the outside one on the inside) and seven buttons. The main zipper is a two way zipper, so that once you have it zipped up you can unzip it from the base of the zipper, allowing easier movement when sitting down, squatting, kneeling, etc.

While the exterior of the jacket is a somewhat bright blue, the lining of the jacket and the hood is dark blue. There is a ribbed polyester collar that lines the nylon collar. The hood is made up of three panels and attaches to the collar via four snaps.

There are two "slash"/hand warming pockets, one on each of the jacket, just below chest level. There are two flap pockets, one on each side, at the bottom of the jacket. There is also a zippered interior pocket on the left side.

The cuffs have adjustable Velcro tabs.

On the Care Instructions tag there are two sets of numbers, 111 and RN61661, which I take to be the model number. I'll contact The North Face and see if they can provide further details. The parka was made in China. The shell is 100% Nylon, the lining is 100% Nylon, the fill is down. There is a note on the tag that reads: This product contain an amount of feathers not exceeding that allowable by law.

If I remember right, it cost me around $80.00. I've only worn this parka a few times, as it is rarely cold enough in Colorado to warrant wearing it. It's a very warm jacket and I tend to get hot in it.

I thought that coat looked very warm. It gets pretty darn cold in my state, even in my pea coat I tend to get cold when the wind's blowing.

I wonder if North Face still makes those. I'll have to looksie. Though, I don't need one. I got a new coat this year to deal with the cold weather (it gets around -30F here in the dead of winter). It's black leather with a plush lining and man is it warm.

I blame MacGyver on this one because I found it while looking for a black, leather jacket. XD

Neat find though! I'll have to see if I can find one like it.

I don't know about that. What I do know is that when MacGyver originally aired and I started to emulate him (carrying a SAK, growing my hair long, buying clothes like he wore, etc.) my parents would joke with each other that I was wearing my "costume". I found out about their inside joke years later and had a good laugh along with them. To this day I still wear MacGyver style/inspired clothing, just not to the degree I did 20 years ago.
