Where did the belief that MacGyver's first name was Stacey come from? I thought it was Stacy for several years prior to the revelation that his first name is Angus, but I can't remember where I heard it or read it.

We do know that the name was circulating in this press release before the show premiered.

I've heard about him being named Stacey before from random snippets online. I like Angus MUCH better... though, it's kinda funny that our Mac is named after a type of beef served at McDonald's. XD

Nope, it's a unisex name. Probably more common in America as a boys name than anywhere else and even then I think it's pretty uncommon in general, but is can be used as a boys name as well.

Actors Stacey Hall, Stacey Keach, Stacy Peralta and Stacey Harris are all examples of men named Stacey.

Stacey Keach is known for macho roles such as playing the hard nose detective Mike Hammer in the 80's TV series so don't tell him he's got a girls name
