Okay, I think this might be another interesting discussion along the lines of the previous topic with Zito.

I think we all agree that when pushed we can all do things we'd never expect from one another. MacGyver vs Larson or Zito.

Than there is the fight in Log Jam with MacGyver and Glass on the conveyor belt. Mac clearly kept an eye on the end of the belt, jumped away and Glass fell to his death. The conveyor went pretty high and Glass smacked on the ground, there was nothing to break the fall. So we might say Mac killed him.

Anyway, what I wanted to discuss is that last night I watched Slow Death. Mac's train is hijacked by a group of villagers who are looking for two men that sold bad medicines to their village. During the hijack, Mac goes to the engineer and when the train stops, Mac rigs the starter so that only he and the engineer can start the train. In the end when Webster is unmasked he tries to get away, Mac warns him not to touch the starter but does it anyway and gets electrocuted. Webster did look like burnt toast and the shock seemed serious enough that it could've killed him. Hassan called it justice so I think we have to assume Webster is dead mainly because he refused to listen. So in one way it's his own fault.

But on the other side why would Mac rig the train like that it would cause such a deadly shock? There was never any mention of the voltage though, so maybe Mac didn't know it himself what effect it would have. What if not Webster but someone else touched the starter? Like Andy or Kramer or the doctor? This is just speculating of course but you might wonder why did that shock level had to be so high set?

At the start when MacGyver is setting up that trap he tells the train engineer "We've got enough voltage here that if anyone fiddles with it, it'll uncurl his beard."

Knowing that MacGyver doesn't kill would imply that his comment meant that he knew it was strong enough to maybe knock a man unconscious but probably not kill them. I'm also pretty sure that guy moves a little after he is shocked which again implies that he was supposed to be shocked to unconsciousness and not dead. But the fact that we don't see or hear any more about him really leaves things open-ended.

Maybe Hassans comment was supposed to be like when the school bully finally meets his match and gets beaten down everyone says things like "he finally got what he deserved" and "justice finally got served" etc.

Correct about Mac's comment and Hassan's too. Maybe we can assume Webster was brought to the village and than later tended by the doctor.

I can see if my Dad knows... my Dad is a retired electrical engineer and we actually had a conversation about the scene in Negotiator where Mac electrocutes Debra, which was a similar rig. He said that using the fluid (which was anti-freeze) and hooking up the jumper cables to the ignition of his Jeep would be enough to knock out Debra, not kill her. There's not enough juice (or shouldn't be) to kill.

If the train is the same, and since he didn't use any fluid as a conductor, it probably wasn't enough to kill him. But, my Dad seemed to know all the numbers with the Debra conversation, he probably would know about the train as well. I'll update this tomorrow when I find out. :3 I think when dealing with electricity, there's always a risk... which was probably why Mac was warning him. There's always the chance the person can be killed... depending on circumstances.

Mac tried to warn him and I don't think what he rigged up was intended to kill anyone. If it did, it was purely accidental.

The whole thing with Glass always baffled me. I just presumed he let it happen because he didn't have a choice. He fell onto the conveyor during the fight, but he was able to overpower Glass. There really wasn't any place for him to go and may have just been looking for a way off so HE didn't fall to his death. He may have thought Glass would get off on his own or something.

Glass' death is like Victoria's death in Phoenix Under Siege when she tried to kick him out the window. Instead, Mac just got out of the way and she flew out the window to her death. Both villains were over-confident in their abilities and not very bright...

I look at it as Mac just trying to protect himself. Not his fault the villains were idiots.

I agree. Self-defence.
