This seems like a very MacGyver way to have an adventure.

Youth leaders paddled down the Whanganui River this week in kayaks made out of recycled plastic bottles to raise awareness about pollution in New Zealand.

Four double kayaks made out of bottles took part, travelling from Whakahoro to Pipiriki in the National Park.

Led by Shruthi Vijayakuma and Daniel Cullum, the trip addressed concerns about plastic consumption and waste, and the importance of being an ethical consumer.

Neato! A very cool way of addressing the public about pollution too. smile.gif

I feel that laws should be in place that require nearly everything to be recycled, and that every product build must be a certain percentage recyclable. I know that isn't going to ever happen though, no changes will be happen until it's near to too late.

Where I live right now, we have large recycling cans, but only certain things can be put in them, rather than everything that is actually recyclable. For example, food and pop cans that are metal, but no other kinds of metal, regardless of what it is. Or, glass jars are ok, but no other kind or shape of glass, and no plastics of any sort besides pop bottles. Not even food packaging which clearly indicates it's recyclable! I know of other towns that have no recycling whatsoever, but even where it is available it seems a half assed effort at best.

I could go on, but it's just shameful and depressing and I'd rather not think on it.

The boat is cool though.

Nice way to make a statement, hope it does some good.

Here we can recycle quite a bit of stuff - glass, tins, plastics, card and paper, garden trimmings for compost all get collected with the rubbish - but where I lived in Wales they also did tetrapak juice cartons. Waste you take to the tip has to be sorted into metal/wood/oil/glass etc too.

Not bad, I think MacG.gif would approve!

Very cool way to get a point across. Man we could build lots of kayaks with all the plastic water bottles that get thrown away even daily! Sad. I think Mac would approve too.
