Recently I was going through a few old boxes and I found a TDK Low Noise High Output D90 audio cassette. IEC I/Type I Normal Position. Unused, still in the wrapper. I'll sell it to you for 50 bucks.
Don't hesitate, it's "Dynamic"!
Also, according to the label on the back it's "Compatible with virtually all cassette decks"!
Oh, and did I mention that it's made from high tech transparent plastic?
Seriously, don't let this deal pass you by!
No thank you. But if you send me $50 I'd be happy to drive to your house and kick you in the shin.
No one's saying tapes are better, they're not, that isn't the point. Vinyl isn't better either, possibly better than cassette tape depending on your equipment, but again that's not the point.
I can understand why people don't remember tapes very fondly, they did stink if they were prerecorded albums, or you had a cheap walkman or deck, but if had a decent tape recorded on higher end equipment, it sounded pretty good. I don't "prefer" tape, I just accept it for nostalgia and something different to listen to once in a while.

And back to adding to our list, Printers and Fax machines.
I don't think many people were printing anything at home in the 80s, and a fax machine probably wasn't in every business like eventually happened either.
Speaking of fax, I think it's quite laughable and silly that businesses still rely on this antiquated, limited and inferior form of communication. Example, my doctor was commenting how the records and photos that had been sent over from another office via fax were difficult to impossible to read. Uhhh, have we ever heard of EMAIL? For crying out loud companies need get with it!

Both my father and I had computer printers at home in the 80's. He had an Apple IIe and I had a IIgs. I was a spoiled child.

Just remembered this, I actually had a printer back in the 80s too. Some sort of dot matrix model (printed everything out of tiny dots) that I had hooked to my Commodore. I was the only person I knew who had one, which strikes me as odd considering we were dirt poor. We had gotten it at a going out of business auction at some sort of company I think.
I think there's an episode or two where they use a dot matrix printer to print out mug shots. In Pete's office I think, no sure which eps.

Yeah, both the IIe and the IIgs had dot matrix printers with the fanfold paper with the holes on either side.
Though the gs had "near letter quality" printing quality and the paper had super fine perforations on all four sides so you almost couldn't tell that they were there.

Yep, mug shots printed in Blowout and see some excellent footage of a dot matrix printer in use in Blue Ice, complete with feeding the paper and tearing it off.

There's also that bit in Trail of Tears where Willis mentions to that guy with Phoenix Foundation actually does. Now I've got this thing that Willis says that they have access, databanks... but does he mean Access, the office programme or does he mean something else? Because if I'm not mistaken Office came along with Windows 95, supposedly Access being part of that edition.
Access wasn't released for sale until November 1992 - a year after this episode was made.
He says "We'll use the resources of the Phoenix Foundation; Access databanks, global intelligence networks, satellite telemetry..."
He means they'll access all of those things to help.
Sounds all so 'cutting edge'.

What about the wireless phone Mac used in season 7? We used to have things like that too.

My dad was probably one of the few... he had his own business from '85-'94. I think he was probably one of the first people I knew of to get an inkjet printer. I remember well when *those* were cutting edge... and Dad was probably also one of the first people I knew to get a laser printer.
My college, while most of it's computer equipment was pretty modern, *still* had a few dot-matrix printers in the mid-to-late 90s.

I remember when Atari released a game consol to hook up to your TV. Instead of poring quarters into games at the arcade you could play your favorites at home for free such as Asteroids and Defender. I remember when myself and my brother opened one up on Christmas. A gift from our aunt. We were so excited. At the time the Atari was quite advanced until Nintendo released their first game box.
