Am I right in thinking that MacGyver never used a Microwave oven?

He had what appears to be one (might just be one of those small electric ovens) sitting on top of his fridge in the Houseboat, but I can't recall ever seeing him ever use one at all.

Hmm...I think you're right. I don't ever remember seeing him use one either.

I don't either, come to think of it. Which is interesting, considering that microwave ovens were readily available by the mid- to late 80s (I think my family had one by about '87). You'd think that someone like Mac would like having the latest gadgets. But I think they were still pretty expensive at that point, and I could see Mac being a bit of a cheapskate.

I remember there being a lot of concern about their safety because certain sectors where playing heavily on the word "radiation" knowing that most people only knew of one kind of radiation - nuclear.

The answer is simple, mac knows the difference between good food and bad, and knows that nothing good comes from a microwave. lol Ok, I'm exaggerating, but aside from reheating (which you can just do with a regular oven anyway), microwaves are semi-useless. I once heard Bobby Flay state that he only owns one for making popcorn. smile.gif Me, I set mine by the curb over a year ago and havn't missed it once. Extra counter space serves me better.

Try heating last nights dinner leftovers in a tupperware bowl in your normal oven. tongue.gif

The only think mine gets used for is boiling a cup of water for a hot drink and occasionally thawing something frozen. Oh and I use the timer some times.

I use mine all the time for food. I'm not going to start cooking for myself when I get back home at 8pm. So that's where Captain Iglo gets in. biggrin.gif

I think you're right though too about Mac never using a microwave but he mentions that whatever Pete was eating (whipped bean curd?) in The Eraser it should be heated. So I assume he does have one or something a like.

People did use to reheat food before Microwaves ya know. laugh.gif

You do it in a normal oven on the lowest temperature - just can't use plastic bowls.

Yes, but they did it slowly, and in a lame, old timey sort of fashion.

Tupperware??? Tupperware is so 1980s, you need to get some Corning Ware and get cooking like it's 1979! Seriously though, vintage corning ware or pyrex -- from oven to table to fridge, all in the same dish.

jeep.gif I don't remember if he used one. They were starting to become affordable in the mid 1980's. Mac grew up in an era when they were not available to the public at large. I think they were used during the Apollo missions to get to the Moon. I still use the conventional stove for some things, maybe I am old school.

I don't remember him using one either. More than likely when microwaves were not available or even invented yet, his mom taught him to cook.

For me, I use my microwave all the time. But for most things it is usually my oven.
