Here's a little mind bender I found in a Google search today and thought I'd bring it here... You're welcome.


In the first episode of Stargate: SG-1, it is implied that MacGyver is a TV show in the Stargate universe, when Samantha Carter comments that it "took them years to MacGyver a system" on Earth.

If this is the case, which actor is likely to be portraying MacGyver in the StarGate Universe?

This reminds me of the movie The Last Action Hero. This kid gets sucked into the universe of his action hero Jack Slater (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) with a magical movie ticket and by trying to explain that his hero is just an actor he takes him to a videoshop to show him that he also played in the movie Terminator 2. But it appeared to be Sylvester Stallone in that universe in which the kid became confused.

So who played MacGyver in the StarGate universe? I'd say Kurt Russell. I know he played in the StarGate movie, so it probably was also him in the Macverse. I remember watching this trailer from his movie Breakdown and couldn't help but notice on how much he actually looks like RDA. Also in the movie Breakdown he has the mullet for it.

Now this is just for the sake of thinking about it because Kurt Russell already made a big movie long before MacGyver was aired. He made the John Carpenter movie Escape From New York in 1981. So it might seem a little strange that after making a movie that launches your career you end up doing tv.

So yeah, Kurt Russel be my first choice.

Well I'm currently writing a crossover fanfiction story between Stargate and Quantum Leap, postulating that in both universes MacGyver was a TV show. Sam Beckett, having leaped into Daniel Jackson, takes one look at O'Neill and says 'Oh boy, you used to be MacGyver!' Especially since he thinks he must be on a film set when a finds a zat in his hand.
So in my story, MacGyver was played by Richard Dean Anderson, an actor who coincidentally happens to bear a strong physical resemblance to Jack O'Neill - who'da thunk it?
One of those - he entered a look-alike contest and came third! sorta scenarios.

But that just happens to be how I feel about it. What do you think?

He seems a pretty good fit in my mind in the Stargate universe.

Actually, if we couldn't have RDA playing MacGyver, Scott Bakula (Sam Beckett) might not be a bad choice...

Or Nathan Fillion, but he'd have to turn down the tendency to flirt a bit!
