Hi. I am thinking about getting a Victorinox pioneer and I am just wondering
what everyone thinks about this knife.I also hear the backsprings are stronger than the 91mm Cellidor handled ones, any thoughts?

It's a great knife. There are some who might opt for a Farmer or Electrician over the Pioneer/Soldier in that SAK genre. All depends on your basic usage needs, I guess.

The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination.

Whether you think you can or you can't .... you're probably right!

I think the Pioneer is a fine knife. The Alox models are a bit stronger in the backsprings, but not so much that it's an issue. My only issue is the key ring placement on the Alox line (it's in a slightly different position than the cellidor knives) -it really stabs my palm. Of course, YMMV.

Also, remember that you're losing the toothpick and tweezers in the Alox line.

Every moment is an adventure. Are you equipped?

I had to go look it up because I've not heard of that type before.

It's missing too many of the useful tools for me. I'm constantly using the cross head screwdriver, tweezers and toothpick on my Ticker, but that's why I have one, because it suits my needs. That's the great think about SAKs there's one to suit everyone's needs and if this will suit your needs than it's the knife for you. smile.gif

Great knife i have it. Backsprings are stronger because knife donīt have any blades on backside. Basicly it is old model soldier knife with keyring and different cross logo. Alox handles makes knife thinner than normal plastic versions. sakopen.gif

I have to agree that this is a nice looking SAK.

Yes, it's a great price on Amazon.com. They also make one just like this called the farmer they just add a saw. I can sacrifice the toothpick and tweezers for the Alox handles. They hold up much better than the Cellidor handles and the tools are slightly larger which I like.

Used it yesterday & have to agree that it is a solid multitool to use.

very nice. I just got mine and it is great. the tools are noticeably
larger than the Cellidor ones. it feels very substantial and the Alox
scales are as tough as nails! sak.gif

So just today my friend got me a wooden handled Spartan as a Christmas gift and it is great. The handles are made of walnut wood which is very durable and will patina over time.
So now I have 2 great knives! sak.gif sak.gif

Another great knife is the Spartan. Must look at some pics of the one with the wooden handle.

Yes that's it. Here is a link to the knife.

Also does anyone have tips on how to care for the wooden handles?

I have a walnut-handled can opener which I use mineral oil on, the same as I use on the sak pivots and wood cutting boards. The scales on what you have could be treated with something, I have a wooden handled bread knife that never looks any different no matter how much it's washed, but my can opener will start looking funny without mineral oil now and then. Like the wood starts drying out and shrinking.

Wow. Already a classic knife, the wooden handle only refines its timeless look.

I agree with what KiwiTek says here, but not just because I use a similar SAK. I use a Deluxe Tinker because out of all the SAK's I've owned so far, I find this one to be the most well rounded for my uses. It all depends on what you use it for the most and what your preferences are : ) The Pioneer is perfectly fine and I still use it from time to time. It's lighter than some of the others too.

Walk in love, walk in service, and you will walk in honor.
